Mark Burnett has been appointed president of MGM Television and Digital Group, after MGM struck a deal for the remaining 45 percent that Burnett, Roma Downey and Hearst hold in United Artists Media Group. Burnett will report to Gary Barber, MGM chairman and CEO. MGM acquired a 55 percent stake in the venture last year. “Demand for quality content is stronger than ever and the opportunities to grow our pipeline and develop projects from the wealth of Intellectual Property in the MGM and United Artists libraries are enormous,” said Burnett. “There is no better time to be creating premium content for distribution across multiple platforms.” A previously announced streaming channel will continue to be controlled by Burnett, Downey, Hearst and MGM. Downey takes on the role of chief content officer, as well as president of faith and family unit LightWorks.
