Intel is officially aboard as a top Olympic sponsor, signing a long-term technology partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) days after McDonald’s ended its global sponsorship contract with the IOC. Intel, as a worldwide partner through 2024, will work with the IOC to attract younger fans to the Olympics through leading-edge technology. Among the enhancements Intel will focus on incorporating to transform the Olympic experience are its 5G platforms, virtual reality, 3D and 360-degree content development platforms, artificial intelligence platforms, and drones. The first activation will take place at the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea, where Intel technology will provide real-time virtual reality viewing of the events in Pyeongchang.
“Thanks to our new innovative global partnership with Intel, fans in the stadium, athletes and audiences around the world will soon experience the magic of the Olympic Games in completely new ways,” IOC President Thomas Bach said.
