Among the highlights of the 74th Golden Globes Awards ceremony on NBC last night were a cold-open with host Jimmy Fallon in an A-list, dancing-on-cars-while-waiting-to-hit-the-red-carpet bit (thanks, La La Land), that included Fallon twirling with Justin Timberlake. Fallon found himself winging it in the first few live seconds, Teleprompter-less. “This is a great way to start the show,” said Fallon. “Already you have our Golden Globes moment!” Donald Trump jokes and a musical tribute to Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds followed, but the highlight of the evening was a powerful, poignant tribute to Meryl Streep from Viola Davis, who’d picked up a Best Supporting Actress award for Fences, and Streep’s acceptance of the Cecil B. DeMille Award with Trump call out, saying, “Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence invites violence,” advising, “As the departed Princes Leia once said, ‘Take your broken heart and turn it into art.’”
