The Nido R. Qubein School of Communication at High Point University invites applications for a Broadcast Engineer who will support all aspects of technical operations and media production within the school’s studios and facilities. The successful candidate will ensure high-quality production environments, manage system maintenance, and provide technical leadership to faculty, staff, and students engaged in live and recorded productions.
The Broadcast Engineer will play an essential role in supporting the school’s mission to provide hands-on, industry-standard production experiences for students and will have opportunities to contribute to the development of emerging media technologies and workflows.
Key Responsibilities
TV Studio Support & Maintenance
- Maintain and troubleshoot studio production equipment, including switchers, servers, graphics systems, and robotic camera controls.
- Ensure smooth integration and interoperability of Ross Video systems within overall broadcast workflows.
- Collaborate with the Studio Manager and Media
- Production Department to optimize technical workflows and promptly resolve in-studio technical issues.
- Monitor and maintain broadcast signal quality and integrity across multiple distribution media.
- Perform routine maintenance and upgrades on broadcast systems.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of production gear for live broadcasts and events.
- Document technical procedures and maintain accurate system logs.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies related to broadcast engineering and Ross Video products.
- Develop and coordinate studio equipment repair processes in cooperation with the NQSC Studio Manager.
Production Equipment Maintenance
- Repair and maintain field-production camera kits, including Canon HD & UHD cameras, lenses, tripods, and audio equipment.
- Maintain LED lighting kits and grip support equipment (stands, C-stands, etc.).
- Develop and coordinate equipment repair processes in cooperation with the NQSC Equipment Room Manager.
Facilities Maintenance
- Repair and maintain general-use media areas such as the NQSC podcasting studio, audio mixing rooms, and screening room.
- Act as a liaison with HPU IT personnel regarding technical issues in the NQSC building.
