Job responsibilities
Boston University invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor of the Practice, Multi-Episode Television Producing in the Department of Film and Television at Boston University’s College of Communication.
We seek a colleague with a professional track record in developing, producing, and managing scripted and unscripted multi-episodic series for linear television and/or streaming. Familiarity with visual effects and AI-supported tools is considered a plus, but not a requirement. Qualified applicants will be distinguished multi-platform practitioners with a significant body of “boots on the ground” work in the TV and streaming industry. The position will require in-class instruction and on-set exercises. The ideal candidate will exhibit an enthusiasm for teaching concept creation, pitching, development, packaging, pre-production, and management of physical and post-production. Knowledge of business and legal affairs is preferable. We are interested in applicants with a deep interest in television and streaming industry programming trends, as well as the ability to construct courses that prepare students for producing positions in those areas while maintaining the highest educational standards. The position may also require teaching existing production courses at the introductory and intermediate levels. An advanced degree and background in teaching at the university level are preferred.
Duties require teaching three courses per semester at the undergraduate and graduate levels, plus service, which includes committee work. Department faculty are also encouraged to propose and develop new courses in their field of expertise.
