Entry Deadline: February 20, 2013
Late Submission Deadline: February 27, 2013
Awards Ceremony: June 2013
CBS ordered a pair of comedies from Raising Hope showrunner Greg Garcia and another comedy from executive producer Will Gluck as well as a drama centered on a Kennedy-like family from Frank Marshall. Garcia’s (Raising Hope, My Name Is Earl, Yes, Dear) first comedy, Super Clyde is about a meek, unassuming fast-food worker who decides to become a super hero; Garcia will write and be an EP. Garcia’s second comedy is referred to “the unauthorized Greg Garcia project” about a recently divorced man whose life is complicated when his parents decide to move in with him. Garcia will write this one and serve as EP. Garcia has an overall deal since last May with CBS Television Studios. Gluck’s comedy, The McCarthys is a single-camera family show about a loud, sports-crazed Boston clan. Brian Gallivan will write the pilot and serve as a co-EP on the project produced by Sony Pictures Television and Gluck’s Olive Bridge company. The drama from Marshall is titled The Ordained and focuses on the son of a Kennedy-like family, who leaves the priesthood and becomes a lawyer to prevent his politician sister from being assassinated. CBS Television Studios is producing with Lisa Takeuchi Cullen involved as writer and co-EP; Marshall will be an EP along with the Shuman Co.’s Larry Shuman and A.B. Fischer. Robert Zotnowski will also be a co-EP on the one-hour project.
TNT is at it again ordering a one-hour drama pilot from Leverage executive producer Dean Devlin about a bounty hunter/bail bondswoman played by Oscar winner Geena Davis and inspired by the real-life story of Mackenzie Green. The drama stars Davis as a unconventional bail bondswoman and bounty hunter whose eccentric personality and unusual tactics give her an advantage in a tough and unpredictable business. Scott Prendergast and Amy Berg penned the script with Devlin set to direct. All three will also be EPs along with John Altschuler, Dave Krinsky, Tom Lassally and Michael Rotenberg.
Jerry Bruckheimer’s upcoming thriller pilot Hostages, ordered by CBS, will have Toni Collette in the lead role. Collette (United States of Tara) stars as Ellen, a Washington, D.C. surgeon who becomes embroiled in a political conspiracy after being chosen to operate on the POTUS. Her family is taken hostage and it’s up to her to save their lives. Hostages is based on an Israeli format by Alon Aranya, Omri Givon and Rotem Shamir though it was never produced. For the CBS version, Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Warner Bros. Television are producing with Jeffrey Nachmanoff involved as writer and director. Jonathan Littman, Givon, Shamir and Chayim Sharir join Bruckheimer and Nachmanoff as EPs.
Rosemarie DeWitt is departing HBO’s Newsroom. The actress had been cast in a recurring role for the second season of Aaron Sorkin’s drama, playing Rebecca Halliday, a litigator who defends the fictional Atlantis Cable News channel when it becomes involved in a wrongful termination lawsuit. DeWitt’s role will be recast and any scenes involving DeWitt will also be reshot.
Two are joining HBO’s True Blood: former Friday Night Lights alum Jurnee Smollett becomes a series regular for the upcoming sixth season playing Nicole, a goody-goody who has a positive rosy outlook on life. 90210’s Amelia Rose Blaire will play Willa, the daughter of Louisiana Governor Truman Burrell (Arliss Howard) who has clashed with her father over vampire rights. True Blood is set to debut season six in June.
TNT’s Franklin & Bash added Heather Locklear as a series regular for the third season. Locklear will play Rachel King, a new partner at the law firm where Jared Franklin (Breckin Meyer) and Peter Bash (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) work at.
GSN tapped musician and producer Kirk Franklin to be a co-host for the second season of The American Bible Challenge. The one-hour series will still have Jeff Foxworthy as host when it premieres March 21 at 8p. The series is produced by RelativityREAL.
Casting Call: Doron Ofir Casting is working with the producers of Big Brother on a new summer competition adventure show. The producers are gathering a cast for the inaugural season of this recreation/survival series and are seeking people with big personalities and who are great storytellers. The requirements include: people must be at least 25 and appear under 40, have a fun, competitive personality and ready to go to an idyllic location to participate in a series involving mental, social and physical challenges. More information and how to apply can be found at: www.tugofwarcasting.com.
