Good Morning. It’s Thursday, October 11, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing. While The CW is the only network so far to order up a second season of a freshman series (Gossip Girl), several other new shows have received additional script orders: Cane, Bionic Woman, Chuck, Life and Journeyman. And the additional script orders now will also give these shows plenty in their coffers in the event of a writers strike at the end of this month. Tonight’s Premieres: ~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~
Right after the New Year, Lifetime Television will add two more reality series to its Friday night reality block. On January 4, Matt Titus: Matchmaker begins at 930p followed by two back-to-back episodes of the new It’s My Party (wt) from 10-11p. Both series follow How to Look Good Naked at 9p. It’s My Party has been ordered with 14 episodes and it follows top party planners who throw extravagant parties; seven episodes based in Las Vegas and another seven in Orange County. This series is produced by Intuitive Entertainment. Seven episodes have been ordered for Matt Titus: Matchmaker, from MarkMark Productions, starring relationship expert Matt Titus who pairs gay and straight couples in New York City. ESPN and ESPN HD gained exclusive U.S. rights to televise the first two rounds of the Masters Tournament starting next year from April 7-13. In addition, a Spanish-language telecast of the first two rounds will air in the U.S. on ESPN Deportes. ESPN and ESPN HD will air both rounds live each day from 4-7p and rebroadcast the rounds in primetime each night from 8-11p. ESPN Deportes will air coverage from 4-7p each day. ESPN’s Mike Tirico will host the ESPN telecasts. In previous years, USA Network had the rights to the early Masters rounds. Picking up the off-net strip rights and weekly repurposing rights to NBC‘s Heroes are G4 and hi-def net Mojo, starting in 2010, reports Variety. Both networks will begin airing the repurposed episodes the weekend of October 27, and G4 will produce an accompanying 30m recap series – The Post Show – that will follow the repurposed Heroes, scheduled for Saturday nights at 10p. G4 is currently in 65 million homes; Mojo is in 10 million. MTV’s hour-long premiere of A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila Tuesday night (10p) delivered a 2.0 rating among P12-34 and averaged more than 1.8 million total viewers. The debut episode soared even higher with W18-24 viewers at a 4.0 rating and with female teens at a 3.3 rating. The Sportsman Channel introduces a slew of new shows this fourth quarter:

ABC ordered a script to be written by Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars) based on the New Zealand series Outrageous Fortune, a drama about a family of blue-collar criminals. Michael Larkin, Michael Goldstein, Bruce Cervi and John Lansing brought the project to ABC Studios and will all serve as Co-Executive Producers. Dallas Cowboy’s Nate Jones is getting into the television production industry and producing his first pilot. Working with his agent Everette Scott and writer/producer Andre Barnwell, Nate plans on shopping his sports-themed sitcom Jock Itch to networks. The pilot, shot in Dallas using local talent, is about two former high school football teammates who leave their small Texas town to live in Dallas after graduation to pursue non-football careers. Glenn Gordon Caron renewed his development deal with CBS Paramount that will now take him thru 2009. Caron will continue his involvement with NBC’s Medium, as well as work on other new projects, including Meant-to-Be’s, a one hour drama pilot ordered by CBS. Joining the cast of TNT‘s new drama series Truth in Advertising is Monica Potter, as a copywriter at the ad agency. The series is from Shephard/Robin Co., and Warner Horizon, and stars Eric McCormack and Tom Cavanagh. Regis Philbin will soon be back in the primetime game business, having signed to host a remake of Password for FremantleMedia NA and CBS, reports Variety. The title of the remake will be Million Dollar Password, and the network has ordered 6 episodes. The format will be just like the original – two celebrity contestants, each matched with a regular person, giving one word clues to help their partner identify the password. Personally, I think its only fitting the inaugural show should include Betty White, but that’s just me. Fox has given a put pilot committment to a drama project called The Church of Reggie, about a guy who creates and preaches his own religion. The project is from Imagine TV and 20th Century Fox TV. Signed on to host NBC‘s new primetime live reality series Phenomenon which looks for the next great mentalist, is Tim Vincent working side by side with Criss Angel the Mindfreak guy, and spoon bender Uri Geller. The show focuses on 10 contestants who purportedly have some sort of great mental abilities. The show is set to launch on October 24 at 8p. Casting Call: TV Land is casting for a new six-episode series called The Big 40. The network is looking for people who are turning the big “4-0” before the end of January and having big blow-out parties to celebrate. NBC Universal elevated two in its National Accounts team in the TV Networks Distribution unit: Lee Crain and Heidi Newman have both been upped to SVP/National Accounts, TV Networks Distribution. Lee and Heidi will continue to report to Henry Ahn, EVP, TV Networks Distribution. Mitch Praver was hired at NPR as EVP/COO starting October 29. He will manage the daily operations of NPR that includes programming, finance and administration, technology and digital media division, as well as business initiatives. Mitch will report to Ken Stern, CEO. Ryan Pinette advanced to Director/Production at Bravo up from Supervising Producer/Production. Ryan will continue to supervise production for the network with emphasis on original series and specials. Based in Los Angeles, he continues to report to David O’Connell, VP/Production. NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution tapped Dirk W. Johnston as VP/Southwest Sales based in Dallas-Fort Worth. Dirk will handle programming sales efforts in the southwest region and will report to Sean O’Boyle, SVP/National Sales Manager. Krupp Kommunications, Inc. (K2) recruited Robin Applebaum as Director/Publicity. In her new capacity, Robin will manage the company’s production business and the media relations team.
