Sr. Director, Podcast Operations

Company Overview: The Urban One story began 40 years ago with one radio station and is now a multimedia powerhouse with 60+ radio stations in 13 markets (Radio One), nationally syndicated radio personality networks (Reach Media), national cable television networks (TV One/CLEO TV), and digital, social, mobile brands (Interactive One).

Role: We are searching for a Sr. Director, Podcast Operations to lead podcast strategy and operations on a national level for Urban One’s growing slate of podcasts with a focus on creating, developing, and managing podcasts and their associated revenue strategies.  This role will be responsible for driving initial strategy, podcast aggregation, creative development and production all the way through distribution, marketing, audience growth, and revenue for Urban One’s network of podcasts. 

The Sr. Director, Podcast Operations is a key member of the Radio and Digital divisions that represents a unique opportunity to have a direct impact on developing and creating the strategic direction, operational efficiency and revenue opportunity from the ground up of a new and growing department within the company.    

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement, monitor and lead podcast strategy and daily operations for Urban One’s network of podcasts

  • Play a critical role in structuring and shaping the operational framework, brand and business strategy for podcasting as a new business line within the organization

  • Rethink workflows, processes, and systems associated with Urban One’s podcast initiatives to standardize success metrics, manage the rollout of new shows, communicate plans internally, and make day to day management of the podcast ecosystem run smoothly and efficiently

  • Build podcast network through the development and growth of internal podcasts as well as identifying opportunities for partnerships, acquisitions, and other business arrangements with external podcasts and publishers

  • Lead the development, marketing, execution, distribution, and revenue generation tied to all current and new podcasts

  • Develop recommendations for new podcast growth initiatives, platforms, and programs

  • Lead partnerships with other verticals in the company umbrella to create and take to market podcasts from company IP and to cross-promote shows

  • Work closely with cross-functional internal and external teams to explore and identify podcast monetization opportunities including sponsorships/partnerships

  • Manage operational budget and P&L associated with all podcasts

  • Oversee podcast distribution strategy, working with various internal teams to optimize audience reach and engagement on all relevant platforms

  • Collaborate closely as needed with programming and producers on all aspects of creative and production, including but not limited to, research, writing, guest/interview selection, directing and managing talent, recording and post-production

  • Create and negotiate vendor relationships tied to growing podcast offerings

  • Coordinate with Finance teams to ensure that we meet payment commitments

  • Collaborate with the Legal team to develop policies related to the creation, production, distribution, and monetization of the podcasts

  • Create and drive presentations to communicate and socialize business progress to relevant internal and external stakeholders regarding new podcast business unit

  • Help with the development of all client presentation slides related to podcasts

  • Stay abreast of all-digital audio and podcast trends, business opportunities and best practices

  • Work with leadership to continually improve and refine podcast offerings

  • Manage the communications and information flow of podcast-related press releases to the advertising community

  • Build and manage relationships with talent, producers, and other key partners

  • Provide constructive feedback and coaching to podcast talent and other employees involved in podcast content and operations
