Cynopsis: Kids!


Good morning. It’s Wednesday, September 1, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Don Moody, creator of WordWorld, in partnership with WTTW Productions, launches Duck’s Alphabet ( ), a series of educational online songs and interactive games.  Duck’s Alphabet is designed to help teach preschoolers early literacy skills, specifically focusing on letters and sounds via alphabetics: phonological awareness, knowledge of the letters of the alphabet and knowledge of the letter sound associations.  The series is comprised of 26 “game-isodes,” each focusing on a different letter, and kid players help WordFriend Duck through a series of challenges as they explore shapes and sounds of the letters.


Imira Entertainment, Spain-based production/distribution company, inks a deal with Canal Sur (Spain) for two animated series, Planet Grabo (26×13) for K8-12, and Corneil & Bernie (52×13) aimed at K6-10, from Millimages.  Canal Sur is part of Forta’s public broadcasting network.

In other Imira news, Television de Canarias (Spain) acquires two teen-targeted TV movies from Imira’s library, Scooter, Secret Agent (1×90) and Wicked Science (1×90). Jonathan M. Schiff and ZDF Enterprises are the producers of both TV movies.

Canada’s 9 Story Entertainment, in association with Loten Media (Mighty Machines), will head to MIPJunior this fall to debut Making Stuff (52×5), a new factual series for K4-7.  Designed to help younger kids experience how everyday things are made and work, the series follows Gears, the animated host made from spare factory parts, and his animated buddy Wiz, who has x-ray vision, as they explore factories and plants where different things are made.  The live-action factory footage is shot in HD.  Making Stuff premieres this fall in Canada on TVOntario, TFO, and Knowledge Network.

CDC China, Village Productions UK and Agogo Hong Kong partner on the new preschool CGI animated series Patch Pillows (78×7), which they plan to introduce at Mipcom this fall.  Patch Pillows revolves around four friends and their patchwork world of play and adventure.  An interactive and educational series, Patch Pillows was created by Mohan Subramaniam and Steven Ching, and is written by animator John Gatehouse.  The series is set to deliver in February 2011.

Spearmark Lighting inks a license deal with Disney to introduces versions of its Rise & Shine, a sleep routine trainers for parents and kids, featuring Disney characters in the UK.  The two current designs are the Disney Princess and Toy Story versions, the first featuring a 3D figurine of a Disney Princess in her castle and the other Buzz Lightyear in his space rocket.  The Princess Rise & Shine product is available now, with the Toy Story edition to be available in December.


Strawberry Shortcake teams with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.  Together, Strawberry Shortcake and ALSF are encouraging kids and adults to volunteer nationwide to host special Strawberry Shortcake Alex’s Lemonade Stands during September.  All funds raised through this effort to help fight childhood cancer will benefit ALSF.  For further information about setting up a strawberry lemonade stand go to .  American Greetings Properties, the intellectual property and licensing division of American Greetings Corporation, and Strawberry Shortcake’s global licensing agent CPLG, a unit of Cookie Jar Entertainment, will make a donation to ALSF for every strawberry lemonade stand registered on behalf of Strawberry Shortcake.
