Good morning. It’s Wednesday, March 21, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.

Litton Entertainment and SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment partner to launch the new half-hour series Sea Rescue. Hosted by environmental journalist and Good Morning America weather anchor Sam Champion, Sea Rescue will debut on April 7, 2012, as part of the Saturday morning Litton’s Weekend Adventure, a three-hour block that airs in the US on 95% of ABC Affiliates. The educational series features stories of marine animal rescues, rehabilitation and release efforts by teams of dedicated veterinarians, animal care experts, animal science researchers and government authorities.


HIT Entertainment and Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing enter into a master publishing deal for the new preschool series Mike the Knight in North America, marking the brand’s first consumer product licensing agreement for the US and Canada. The deal sees Simon & Schuster’s imprint Simon Spotlight acquire the rights to produce a range of story, picture, novelty, activity, and coloring books, as well as non-interactive e-books, with new titles set to launch in the US and Canada in 2013. The deal further expands HIT Entertainment’s relationship with Simon & Schuster, which signed on last year as the US and international publishing partner for Mike the Knight. The animated Mike the Knight half-hour adventure series launched on Nickelodeon in February 2012, and on Nick Jr. in early this month. Mike launched on Treehouse (Canada) in September 2011.

Bulldog Licensing, the UK licensing agent for the Build-A-Bear Workshop brand, announces a new publishing deal with Pedigree for a range of Build-A-Bear Workshop books in the UK. Pedigree will publish two Build-A-Bear Workshop titles 2012 – an Activity Handbook and an Annual. The Activity Handbook is set for publication in April, and will feature content based around special occasions throughout the year, such as birthdays, Easter, Christmas and Halloween. Each section will include coloring, recipes, make-its and fun activities based around the occasions, with activities including making balloon bears, designing a bear dress, and some holiday specific activities like ‘bunnying up your bear’ for Easter. The Annual will follow a similar format and is set to be available in August.


Vme, a US Spanish-language TV channel that features a range of programming including educational preschool shows, partners with Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) to celebrate the Girl Scout’s 100th anniversary and help kickoff the GSUSA’s yearlong leadership initiative ToGetHerThere (Juntos Por Ella) campaign. GSUSA’s ToGetHerThere is designed to develop leadership in young girls, by encouraging individuals, corporations, governments and organizations to help break the barriers young girls face in today’s world. Vme will support GSUSA and celebrate its anniversary by developing PSAs featuring their new CEO, Anna Maria Chavez, and highlighting girl scouts and their activities. This campaign will be broadcast and hosted online as well. Vme will also host a “Mentoring Day” where girl scouts will receive and take part in their own PSA recording, and create a website campaign directing viewers to the Spanish version of the ToGetHerThere website, (


Zodiak Kids, the kid’s production and distribution arm of Zodiak Media, orders a second season of the animated series Sally Bollywood, which is a co-produced between Tele Images Productions, part of Zodiak Kids, and the Australian’s Three’s A Company. The 52×11 new episodes of Sally Bollywood have been presold to Super RTL (Germany), Disney Channel (France and Germany), France Televisions (France) and Network 7 (Australia). In addition, CSC Media’s PopGirl TV (UK) recently acquired both seasons of Sally Bollywood. Pre-production on the new season (USD $6.7 million) of Sally Bollywood has begun, bringing the series to a total of 104×11 episodes, and is slated to be available for early 2013. Zodiak Rights owns worldwide distribution rights to Sally Bollywood.

The classic British stop-motion animated mischievous duo Morph and Chas are set to return to CBBC (UK) next week in an episode of its new series Ricky’s Radical Reinventions, produced for the channel by Aardman Animations. Hosted by animator and inventor Ricky Martin, the series shows kid viewers how to make things they might take for granted, using everyday objects found at home. In this particular episode of Ricky’s Radical Reinventions, Ricky explores sound and shows how to make your own loudspeaker. Ricky is surprised to find Morph and Chas living in the back of his van, and when he does, shenanigans ensue. The episode will air on CBBC on Monday, March 26 at 6:15p.

9 Story Entertainment completes new broadcast sales for its animated series Almost Naked Animals (52×22). Acquiring seasons 2 and 3 of Almost Naked Animals are Super RTL (Germany), Canal+ France (France) for its Canal+ Family and Teletoon+ channels. Luk International (Spain and Portugal) picks up season 3 of the series, while Astral (Canada) has taken seasons 1 and 2 for its French language VRAK TV. Currently in its third season, Almost Naked Animals is both produced and distributed by 9 Story Entertainment.

Spain-based Vodka Capital has inks two broadcast deals for its preschool series Jelly Jamm (52×11) in Canada with Tele-Quebec (Quebec) and TVOKids (Ontario). TeleQuebec and TVOKids will premiere the show this spring 2012. The series will also launch this spring on Canal 5/Televisa (Mexico) and RTP 2 (Portugal). A comedy that encourages creativity, music, fun and friendship, Jelly Jamm follows the adventures of five wacky friends that learn to live together on the magical planet of Jammbo, which happens to be the origin of music in the Universe. Jelly Jamm is currently airing in 150+ countries on Pay TV on Turner’s Cartoonito (EMEA), Discovery Kids (LATAM), and on Free TV on Clan/RTVE (Spain), Milkshake/Channel 5 (UK), Cartoonito (Italy), Cartoon Network (Turkey), Cartoon Network Arabic (Middle East).

Telegael, an Ireland-based live action and animation production studios, appoints Siobhan Ni Ghadhra to the newly created position of COO, responsible for the day-to-day operations of Telegael and its subsidiary companies. Prior to her appointment, Ghadhra served as Telegael’s Head of Production for the last 12 years. Under the new structure, Telegael’s CEO Paul Cummins will focus on further developing the external relationships and opportunities for the company around the world. Siobhan Ni Ghadhra began her career at Roger Corman’s Irish film studios in 1998 before joining Telegael.
