Kahn Lucas Lancaster, 123-year-old designer and wholesaler of branded girls’ dresses and fashion collections, acquires all intellectual property and select assets of Alexander Doll Company, the 89-year-old makers of the Madame Alexander play and collectible dolls. Kahn Lucas had been a long time licensing partner with Alexander Doll under Kahn Lucas’ Dollie & Me brand of matching girl and doll apparel and related accessories. The terms of the deal were not released. In addition to the core Madame Alexander brands, the deal includes the experiential retail brands of Madame Alexander Doll Factory and Newborn Nursery as well as the entire portfolio of Middleton Doll brands. The company will also continue to work closely with all retailers and ecommerce partners in the US and internationally that support the various Alexander Doll and Kahn Lucas brands as well as the Madame Alexander Doll Club.

Genius Brands International, developer and marketer of the Baby Genius music and education-based products and characters, enters into a licensing deal with Sunscape Eyewear, a manufacturer and distributor of eyewear and accessories, for a line of Baby Genius brand eyewear. The two-year agreement grants Sunscape rights to manufacture and distribute worldwide Baby Genius-themed eyewear (sunglasses and other eyewear) for kids 0-4 featuring Baby Genius characters. Product categories include sunglasses, eyewear and eyewear accessories such as croakies and cases. The initial line of products will debut for the 2012 holiday season, and will be targeted to mass retailers including Walmart, Toys ‘R’ Us, Babies ‘R’ Us and Target. Additionally, this fall Jakks Pacific will launch its Baby Genius branded toys.

BBC Worldwide and The Wand Company (, inventors of high tech Kymera Magic Wand, ink a license deal to develop a Doctor Who Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote Control. The device will be based on the Sonic Screwdriver model used by the 11th Doctor, currently played by Matt Smith. A gesture-based universal remote control, the new device will use infrared to control entertainment systems (e.g. TVs, iPod docks and DVD/Blu-ray players). With advanced gesture recognition technology, up to thirty-nine remote control codes can be stored in the Sonic Screwdriver. The Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote Control will be available at retail later this year.

Disney will host the cross channel three night programming event Summer Adventure Weekend, on Disney Channel on Friday, July 13 (8-10p), Sunday, July 15 (7:30-9p) and on Disney XD on Monday, July 16 (7:30-10p). The stunt will feature premiere vacation-themed episodes of 11 of series, including, on Disney Channel’s – Gravity Falls, Fish Hooks, Jessie, A.N.T. Farm, Good Luck Charlie, Austin & Ally and Shake It Up on Friday and Sunday, and over on Disney XD’s Lab Rats, Kickin’ It, Pair of Kings and Mr. Young on Monday. Sesame Workshop releases Grover’s Number Special app and the Bert’s Bag app for Windows and Nokia Symbian 3 Phones, as the first official Sesame Street apps adapted in five different languages, including Mandarin, Hindi, Spanish, Dutch and German, in addition to English. This month both domestic and international Windows and Nokia mobile users can interact with Bert and Grover with the two new apps available from the Microsoft Marketplace for Windows Phones, and the Nokia Store for Nokia Symbian 3 mobile phones across the US, and countries in Asia, Latin America, and Europe. In the US both apps will be available in Spanish and English for Windows mobile users, and in English for Nokia Symbian 3 users. The apps will be available in 40+ countries in both their national languages and in English. Developed with IDEO, both Grover’s Number Special and Bert’s Bag include original Sesame Street video content and encourage visual discrimination, counting, and number recognition.

Teen Vogue launches the Teen Vogue Insider app for iPhone and iPod touch. The new app invites readers to connect with the print issue of Teen Vogue and get customized and exclusive content. The Teen Vogue Insider app allows readers to scan both editorial and advertising pages in the magazine to unlock bonus content, access shopping guides and exclusive deals, and share via social media a variety of features. The more readers interact with the app, the more they’re rewarded with the chance to win prizes. The new app will be key throughout Teen Vogue’s Back-to-School Saturday shopping event. The app will allow shoppers to check-in at participating retailers on August 11, 2012 to earn points toward winning exclusive Teen Vogue prizes, such as shopping sprees and merchandise. Shoppers can also map participating sponsors to find local retailers and their Back To School Saturday offers.


Entertainment One Family (eOne Family) announces that Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom is teaming up with Jeans for Genes Day 2012, taking place Friday, October 12. The preschool characters will serve as brand ambassadors for the charity’s nursery school campaign, which aims to raise money to provide care and support for kids with genetic disorders through the sale of Ben and Holly zip pulls. Four exclusive zip pulls featuring Ben Elf, Princess Holly, Nanny Plum and Gaston are now on sale at via in addition to a wide range of UK retailers. All proceeds from the sales of the zip pulls will go direct to Genetic Disorders UK, the Jeans for Genes Day charity. In the spirit of Jeans for Genes Day, nursery schools will also run a nationwide competition for kids to design a denim dress for Holly and denim trousers for Ben. Additionally, to support the campaign, eOne is creating Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom branded publicity materials including free fundraising counting charts and online downloads which will be made available to all participating nursery schools.


The second quarter of 2012 marks The Hub TV Network‘s best quarter in its history in Total Day among K2-11 (43,000) and K6-11 (21,000), up +54% and +24% respectively versus the time period last year. In Primetime (8-11p) for second quarter 2012, The Hub also had its best quarter with K2-11 (46,000), an increase of +39%. Additionally, June 2012 now serves as the network’s best month ever in Total Day among K2-11 (49,000) and K6-11 (25,000) up +53% and +25%.

Disney Channel‘s premiere of a special hour-long episode of Good Luck Charlie, Special Delivery, on Sunday, June 24, 2012, 8-9p, hits a series high with K2-11 (3.8 million), 6-11 (3.3 million) and Tweens 9-14 (3.1 million).

Disney XD achieves all time June highs in primetime for June 2012 among K2-11 (227,000), K6-11 (176,000) and Tweens 9-14 (147,000).
