Disney grows its baby and parents business with the launch of DisneyBaby.com (www.disneybaby.com), its new mixed online community and commerce website, which showcase products for expecting and new parents.  The site features ideas and tips from real moms and a comprehensive collection of Disney Baby brand products.  The site also invites users to upload baby photos and memories via the Disney Baby Magical Moment tool to share their experiences with other parents. Huggies, a Kimberly-Clark brand, is the exclusive sponsor for DisneyBaby.com.  The site is organized around milestone baby moments of the day: Getting Ready, In the Nursery, Dressing Baby, On-the-Go, Mealtime, Playtime, Bathtime and Baby’s Firsts.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Cartoon Network (US) and YTV (Canada) re-up with 9 Story Entertainment for a third season (12×22) of its animated series Almost Naked Animals.  Based on designs created by Noah Z. Jones (creator, Fish Hooks), Almost Naked Animals is produced and distributed by 9 Story. The series (there are already 52×22) made its initial launch on YTV in January 2011, followed by CiTV (UK) and ABC (Australia) in spring 2011, and Cartoon Network (US) in June. The series also recently launched on Canal+ (France), Disney Channel (Italy and Latin America), NPO (Netherlands) and Super RTL (Germany).

LICENSING

Ruckus Media and SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment enter into a multi-year licensing deal to create digital storybooks for kids and their families.  Designed to connect kids with animals and the natural world, the new digital storybooks will be based on SeaWorld’s animals, attractions and education and conservation efforts. The agreement grants Ruckus the worldwide rights for these new consumer products and applications. The first three books in the SeaWorld series will launch this spring, and are targeted to K3-8. The interactive storybooks will feature SeaWorld’s killer whales, penguins and sharks and will be available at the App store for Apple mobile devices. New storybook apps will be released throughout the year. A portion of all the proceeds from the digital interactive books will be donated to the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund, a non-profit charitable foundation.

Coolabi extends its license deal for Bagpuss with Asthma UK for two additional years.  Coolabi represents the rights to the classic Bagpuss brand on behalf of Smallfilms and Peter Firmin. Over the past five years, the Bagpuss property has helped raise US $1.5+ million for Asthma UK. The new deal will see Asthma UK expanding the number of outlets which sell collectible Bagpuss items, with licensee Intelex set to introduce new Bagpuss lines in 2012 and the addition of new retailers including River Island and Topshop.

AT New Media and Team 17 debut the Worms Keyring Plush collection from IGS in the UK. Licensed by AT New Media and Worms creator Team 17, the new line of detailed plush keyrings include four different characters, Original Worm, Army Worm, Pirate Worm and the Super Sheep. In addition to the keyring plush products, there are also in multiple traditional collectible plush sizes available.  The Worms line is based on Team 17’s Worms video game, which are now available for a range of video game platforms and mobile devices.

MORE KIDS STUFF

CBeebies invites Latin America and US Hispanic kids to spend the day discovering with the special En el taller de Nina, on Wednesday, January 25 at 12n-4p. The special, which will air as part of the channel’s Time to Discover programming block, features Nina and her assistants exploring questions such as why is the sea salty, why do you cry when you cut onions, among other questions. CBeebies is available on Channel 848 as part of DISH Networks’ DishLATINO package, channel 1085 as part of Cablevision’s iO en Espanol and Channel 1727 as part of Verizon FiOS TV. CBeebies is distributed by BBC Worldwide Channels Latin America & US Hispanic, headquartered in Miami, Florida.

The Hub will debut the second season of the animated series Dan Vs. on Saturday, January 28 at 8p. Produced by Film Roman (Simpsons and King of the Hill) in association with The Hatchery, Dan Vs. features the voices of Curtis Armstrong (Ray), Dave Foley (Kids in the Hall), and Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds).

The BBC’s digital preschool channel CBeebies (UK) re-ups its license deal with Spellbound Entertainment, a UK-based kid’s rights owner and producer, for its popular animated series, The Koala Brothers, for an additional six years.  CBeebies re-licenses The Koala Brothers seasons 1-3 (78×10) and the special The Koala Brothers Outback Christmas (1×46). Under the partnership, The Koala Brothers will be available across CBeebies, BBC iPlayer, the CBeebies website and CBeebies Radio through 2018. The series currently airs daily on CBeebies at 7a. The Koala Brothers first launched on CBeebies in 2004, and has now been sold to 50+ broadcasters in 150 territories worldwide.

Zodiak Kids, a production/distribution arm of Zodiak Media Group, completes new TV deals for the animated series Rekkit Rabbit.  Nickelodeon Germany acquires season 1 of Rekkit Rabbit.  Meanwhile, seasons 1 and 2 have been picked up by TV3 Spain, ETB Spain and Switchover Media’s Italian kid-targeted Channel K2, all of which plan to premiere the series in June 2012.  Rekkit Rabbit is produced by Zodiak Kids’ Marathon Media. The series was originally produced for TF1 (France) and Jetix Europe.

Fun World Media will attend NATPE 2012 next week with its newly appointed sales representative P.E. Media Services for Latin America.  P.E. Media will handle Fun World Media’s entire catalogue of programs, specifically focusing on the tween comedy series, The Jadagrace Show (26×30). The Jadagrace Show follows the adventures of multi-talented 11-year-old Jadagrace who gets her own TV show after her internet music video goes viral.
