UPFRONT 2010: WEtv
WE tv unveiled its programming slate for the 2010-2011 season including six new original series, described generally by John Miller, SVP/Original Production & Development as shows that portray the lifestages of a woman with great stories, good conflict and are positive but not overly earnest:
• Girl Meets Gown - Reality series showcases two busy and popular bridal boutiques in the Dallas area: Stardust Celebrations in Dallas and The Stardust Salon in Plano. Produced by WE tv and AMSs. Six one-hour episodes premiere April 25 at 10p.
• Sunset Daze - Learning that WE tv's Golden Girls off-net series has an average viewer age of 34 gave the network cause to develop this new reality series. The show follows a group of 60+ men and women who live in Surprise Arizona's Sun City, a large retirement community described as Disneyland for the retired. Produced by WE tv and Washington Square. Ten half-hour episodes premiere April 28 at 10p.
• You're Wearing That?!? - New series where mothers and daughters make each other over. Hosted by Luciene Salomone, the series will feature American Idol contestant Kimberley Locke, pro poker player Annie Duke and actress Charlene Tilton. Produced by WE tv and Authentic. Nine half-hour episodes premiere May 14 at 10p.
• Mother Knows Best? - Reality series about Joan and Melissa Rivers as Joan moves in with Melissa and turns her life upside down. Produced by WE tv and Zoo Productions. Eight one-hour episodes slated to premiere in late 4th Qtr 2010.
• Downsized - Series follows the Bruce family - self-proclaimed "cheapest family in America" - with seven teenaged children and two parents as they navigate the stresses of the economy and try their hand at growing their own food and making their own clothes among other cost-saving strategies. Produced by WE tv and Pie Town Productions. Eight one-hour episodes scheduled to premiere in 4Q 2010.
• Fix My Family - Psychiatrist Dr. Tara Fields moves in with a family to help repair relationships filled with miscommunications and toxic history. Produced by WE tv and ISH. Eight one-hour episodes will premiere in 1Q 2011.
WE tv has one returning series on its docket:
• Raising Sextuplets Season 2 - Jenny and Bryan Masche are back raising their toddler sextuplets and trying to survive a job loss and living on one salary. Produced by WE tv and Eric Schiff Productions. Eight one-hour episodes will premiere June 30 at 10p.
WE tv acquired one series:
• Charmed - The network picked up 178 one-hour episodes of the drama series starring Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs, Shannen Doherty and later Rose McGowan playing sisters who discover they are descendents of female witches. Premieres on WE tv June 21 at 5p.
WE tv has four additional series in development:
• Wayne's World (wt) - Reality series follows Wayne Newton and his family, who help run his on- and off-stage life. Ping Pong Productions is developing the series.
• Wild Flowers (wt) - Series follows the women of Enchanted Florist floral shop in Las Vegas. Leftfield Productions is developing.
• Staten Island Cakes (wt) - Reality series follows Vinny, a 19-year old pastry chef who runs a hot cake shop in NYC along with his Italian family. Nancy Glass Productions is developing.
• Dr. Halligan Project (wt) - Series project will showcase female veterinarian, Karen "Doc" Halligan. PB&J Productions is developing.
