Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment for Fox Broadcasting Company, is leaving the network at the end of June. “I’m extremely grateful that FOX has offered me a new long term contract (and anyone who knows me won’t believe I’m saying this), but I’ve decided it’s time for a change,” said Darnell in a statement. “With my current deal ending in June, and having been here for 18 years (kind of a record in Hollywood), I had to make a decision: either stay (and basically admit to myself I was going to retire at FOX… not a terrible choice) or leave and try something new. I’ve been in ‘Reality’ since before it was even called that, and it has truly been an amazing ride. However, the world has changed drastically over the last few years and now with hundreds of channels and limitless ways to watch television, I’ve decided this was the perfect time to take advantage of the rapidly changing marketplace.” Darnell, who joined FOX in 1994, has overseen the launch of such hit shows as American Idol, The X Factor and Hell’s Kitchen.
ABC Media Group has announced that Rachel Miskowiec has joined Katie as Executive Producer. Miskowiec, who last served as a development executive at Telepictures Productions, has an extensive background in daytime television production. She served as executive producer on The Tyra Banks Show, garnering two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Informative Talk Show, and executive-produced Dr. Drew’s Lifechangers and OWN‘s Your Best Life Now.
Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. has named Chris Linn as President, Head of Programming, truTV. Linn, who previously served as executive vice president of programming and head of production at MTV, will be responsible for all programming on the network, including the development and production of original programs. Linn’s duties will also include overseeing all marketing, digital initiatives and strategic planning for truTV.
Lauren Dolgen has been promoted to Head of West Coast Reality Programming, Executive Vice President of Series Development for MTV. Dolgen was formerly Head of West Coast Reality, SVP Series Development. In her expanded new position, she will oversee the creation and development of the network’s west coast based reality television slate, including Teen Mom 2, Ridiculousness, Teen Mom 3 and the next season of The Real World.
Univision News, the news division of Univision Communications, Inc., has appointed Patsy Loris as Vice President of News. Loris, who last served as senior news director for Univision News, will oversee evening and late night news, the weekend edition, news segments for Despierta America, and the operations of Univision’s news division, as well as work with ABC to launch Fusion.
Granite Broadcasting Corporation has promoted Michael Nurse to President and General Manager of WKBW-TV, its ABC affiliate serving Buffalo, New York; effective July 1. Nurse, who previously served as Station Manager and Vice President of Sales at WKBW-TV, will oversee the station’s operations, programming and sales functions. He replaces Bill Ransom who recently announced his retirement.
Maxus North America, the award-winning media services agency, has named Mark Egan as Chief Strategy Officer. Egan, formerly Global Head of New Business and Network Development at Havas Digital, will be responsible for guiding and managing growing agency disciplines. In addition, Brian Leder has been appointed Digital Director. Leder, formerly Global Digital Director at MediaVest, will be responsible for all the agency’s digital activities.
Madison Square Garden Media has appointed Miranda Brown as Director, Ad Sales Systems and Services. Brown is charged with overseeing the commercial operations process for MSG and MSG+ networks from advertiser order approvals to post air. She previously managed commercial operations for The Hotel Networks.
Martin Franks, Executive Vice President of Planning, Policy and Government Affairs for CBS has announced his retirement, effective September 30. During his tenure with the network, Franks served as Vice President, Washington; Senior Vice President, Washington; and Senior Vice President, CBS Corp.
AIM Tell-A-Vision Group has appointed Jon Krobot as Vice President, Content & Partnerships. He will oversee advertising sales, content development and distribution platforms for Raw Travel, the company’s syndicated series debuting this fall. He previously served as Director of Sales & Marketing for Kilroy Architectural Windows, his family’s NYC based business.
Jeff Pegues has been named a CBS News Correspondent, effective July 8. Pegues, who joins the network after 10 years at WABC-TV in New York, will report for all CBS News broadcasts and platforms.
Paws, Inc., licensor of Garfield and the Garfield characters, has appointed Debi Rosenfeld as Executive Sales Director. Rosenfeld, formerly Vice President, Licensing & Merchandising at Saban Entertainment, will round out the sales team focusing on domestic and international sales.
Big Spaceship, a Brooklyn creative agency, has hired Craig Marrano as Director of Production. Marrano, formerly an executive producer at R/GA in New York, will oversee all production across the agency’s clients. In addition, Kara Masi has been appointed Senior Producer. She will be tasked with partnering with clients and collaborating with the Big Spaceship “crew” to drive processes and ensure larger projects and initiatives run according to plan.
Fox Sports has named Bill Dallman as Vice President and News Director of Fox Sports 1, the national cable sports network set to launch on August 17. Dallman will oversee the editorial format of Fox Sports Live and manage news gathering operations.
In addition, Fox has announced other hires at Fox Sports Live. Andy Roddick has been named cohost; Jay Onrait and Dan O’Toole have been appointed the primary highlight team; Don Bell has been named anchor; and Molly McGrath and Julie Stewart-Binks have been appointed update desk and breaking news correspondents.
Holly Steuart has been appointed Vice President and General Manager of WTVM Columbus, a Raycom-owned ABC affiliate. Steuart, formerly general manager of WHP Harrisburg, will succeed Lee Brantley, who is set to retire on July 31.
