Good morning. It’s Tuesday, June 21, 2011, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Principal photography has begun in Belgium on the teen-targeted feature film adaptation of Studio100 Media‘s TV series House of Anubis. Studio100 Media will release the House of Anubis movie in cooperation with Nickelodeon Germany. The movie is set for a spring 2012 release in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The movie stars the cast of the TV series as well as some new characters, along with German celebrities Collien Fernandes (TV host and TV/movie actor), Smudo (singer/songwriter of the hip hop band Die Fantastischen Vier, and an actor) and Bert Tischendorfer (actor). Currently in its sixth season in the Benelux, House of Anubis TV series is based on an idea by Studio100’s CEO Hans Bourlon and COO Gert Verhulst. The German version of House of Anubis debuted in September 2009 on Nickelodeon Germany for German speaking territories, with the English-language version of the series bowing on Nickelodeon US at the top of this year.
Just ahead of this Friday’s release of Pixar‘s newest movie Cars 2, Disney and Pixar reveal that they have selected November 27, 2013 for the release of a new untitled project, per Coming Soon. There were no details about the new project. Other upcoming Pixar movies include Brave (June 22, 2012) and Monsters University (June 21, 2013).

Nickelodeon marks 10 years of The Fairly OddParents with its first mixed live-action and CG-animated TV movie, A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner! premiering Saturday, July 9 at 8-9p. The movie revolves around Timmy Turner who is now 23 (he’s only 10 in the animated series) and refusing to grow up because growing up means losing his fairy godparents, Cosmo and Wanda. Really, who can blame Timmy!?! The movie stars Drake Bell (Drake & Josh) as the live action Timmy Turner, who still lives at home and remains in 5th grade, and Daniella Monet (Victorious) as the now grown up and beautiful Tootie who returns to town and attracts Timmy’s attention. In the movie Cosmo is played by Jason Alexander (Seinfeld) and voiced by Daran Norris (The Fairly OddParents) and Wanda is played by Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm) and voiced by Susanne Blakeslee (The Fairly OddParents). Additionally, the movie feature Steven Weber (Parenthood, Wings) as an oil tycoon who wants Tommy’s fairy godparents for himself. The movie, from series creator Butch Hartman, features a script by Hartman and Scott Fellows and is executive produced by Hartman, Lauren Levine, Marjorie Cohn and Fred Seibert. Produced by Pacific Bay Entertainment, A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner! will be supported online at www.nick.com/fopmovie where fans can see movie trailers, promo clips and exclusive footage, as well as behind-the-scenes footage, photos, new games and quizzes. Following the premiere, the movie will be available in HD on iTunes, Xbox, Amazon.com, Sony Playstation and on DVD beginning July 9 exclusively on Amazon.com via its CreateSpace. The 10th anniversary celebration will also include the release of The Fairly OddParents animated series DVD collection, which will also be available on Amazon.com via CreateSpace’s DVD on Demand platform.
Disney XD in Canada will premiere the new original comedy Kickin’ It on Saturday, July 2 at 7:30p. The evening will also feature the season three premiere of Zeke and Luther at 6:30p. The following week Disney XD will debut the second season of Pair of Kings with back-to-back episodes on Saturday, July 9 at 6:30p, with an eight episode mini-marathon from season one leading up to the new season from 2:30p. Viewers can watch these new episodes on Disney XD OnDemand later in the month. In the meantime, Disney XD.ca features new games, show pages and behind the scenes videos.
Italy’s Atlantyca Entertainment attends Discop Budapest this week (June 21-23) with new program sales in place for its animated TV series Geronimo Stilton. Channel One Russia Worldwide picks up the first two seasons of Geronimo Stilton (52 x 23) to premiere on Carousel, its new 24-hour K3-14 targeted channel as part of its new season that begins mid-September 2011. The deal includes broadcast rights, in Russian, for pay TV and free TV in Russia, exclusive pay TV rights in former USSR countries and non-exclusive pay TV rights worldwide. Also on board for a September 2011 premiere is public broadcaster LRT (Lithuania), which has also acquired seasons one and two of Geronimo Stilton (52 x 23). Additionally, a new deal is completed with Convergent Media to distribute DVDs in Romania through newspaper publisher Gazeta Sportulilor beginning in 2012.
Lucasfilm and Warner Home Video will release Star Wars: The Clone Wars The Complete Season Three on DVD ($44.98) and HD Blu-ray ($59.99) on October 18, 2011. The four-disc set includes all 22 action/adventure episodes from season three of Star Wars: The Clone Wars as well as behind-the-scenes featurettes with cast and crew interviews, and other bonus content. Exclusive to the Blu-ray disc, The Jedi Temple Archives offers in-depth access to an database of creative materials including early test animations, concept art, 3D turnarounds and 30+ deleted/extended scenes.
Nickelodeon Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment will release iCarly: The Complete 3rds Season! ($19.99) on DVD this August 30, 2011. The two-disc iCarly: The Complete 3rd Season 3 DVD release will feature episodes from the season as well as bonus content including Carly’s Hot New Room Tour, Meet Sam’s Mom and Archenemies.
BBC Worldwide and licensee Ladder unveil the launch of the first In the Night Garden edutainment center in Shanghai, China. Featuring characters from the preschool series In the Night Garden, the new center is designed as a place or young kids to play in an educational environment. Ladder, which manages 250 other similar centers across Great China, will also operate a second In the Night Garden edutainment center will open in Hangzhou as well as a third in Shanghai by the end of this summer. BBC Worldwide and Ladder have confirmed plans to launch two further centers by the end of the year. Produced by Ragdoll Productions (Teletubbies), In the Night Garden made its debut in Greater China on CCTV (Chinese Central Television) in May 2009. There are already nine Teletubbies edutainment centers in China.
Ladybird Books, an imprint of Penguin Children’s Books, is set to publish a line of Hello Kitty preschool-targeted titles beginning September 2011. The publisher has acquired the UK rights for Hello Kitty preschool publishing from Fluid World, the UK agent for Sanrio, which owns Hello Kitty. The new Hello Kitty publishing program will include two board books, a buggy book and a touch-and-feel playbook.
Dinosaur Train toys from Megablocks debut in Toys ‘R’ Us stores in Portugal. The toy line will continue rolling out in Portugal this summer reaching El Corte Ingles and Brinka stores in July, followed in September by Pingo Doce and Jumbo, and in December they will also be available in Intermarche. Created by Craig Bartlett, the animated Dinosaur Train series is produced by The Jim Henson Company for PBS Kids in the US. Dinosaur Train made its debut in Portugal on free to air RTP2 in December 2010, followed by its cable debut there on Canal Panda.
The NPD Group‘s Global Toy Market Estimates: 2011 Edition finds that worldwide toys sales in 2010 were up by close to +5% (US$83.3 billion) over 2009. While the increase was driven by strong toy sales across Asia, which increased at a rate nearly double the average (9.2%), the US market remains the largest market with sales of nearly $22 billion, followed by Japan, China, the UK and France. With the toy market continuing to be concentrated within these five countries, which together has just over 50% of global sales, the NPD Group sees growth in emerging markets, specifically the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China) showing growth of +13%. However, 2010 toy sales in Europe were down slightly, due in part to exchange rate fluctuations. Where in 2007 the European sales accounted for 32% of the global market, in 2010, they accounted for 28%.
