Good morning. It’s Tuesday, July 30, 2013, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing. 

The Premier League received its broadcast plans from NBC Sports Group for the first three months of play, which will offer live coverage starting Saturday, Aug. 17 at 7a on NBC Sports Network with the Liverpool/Stoke matchup. Overall, with 69 game windows through Dec. 1, 57 matches will run on NBCSN, 10 on NBC, 27 on Telemundo/mun2 and 61 on Premier League Extra Time, a bonus television package available to MVPDs for customers who receive NBCSN. In addition, all 130 matches in the first three months will be available on digital platform NBC Sports Live Extra. At least five games will be seen each week on NBC Sports Network, NBC and CNBC with all games preceded and followed by Premier League Live pre- and post-match shows.

On the Air

The Gold Cup generated some nice points for FOX Sports, with the US Men’s National Team’s championship win on Sunday nabbing a 1.7/4 overnight household rating/share, according to Nielsen. That was up 42% over the previous Sunday’s ratings and marks FOX’s second-highest metered market rating ever for a soccer game. Locally, Kansas City led all markets with a 3.2/7, followed by San Diego (3.1/8) and Washington, DC (3.0/7).

NBC Sports Group revealed plans for the third annual Battle 4 Atlantis men’s college basketball tournament that will tip off on Thursday, November 28th at 7p on NBC Sports Network. The channel will offer 15 hours of coverage with teams that include Kansas, Villanova, Tennessee, University of Southern California, Iowa, Wake Forest, Xavier and UTEP. NBCSN will carry the daily 7p and 9:30p games Thursday-Saturday nights. Coverage begins with Xavier/Iowa live from the Atlantis resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.

ESPN announced plans to showcase 75 Little League World Series Regional Games across the mothership, ESPN2, ESPN3 and Longhorn Network, upping the overall tally by 41 games over last year’s total. The regional games will lead into ESPN’s multiplatform coverage of the 74th annual Little League World Series presented by Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes, from Williamsport, Pa. Aug. 15-25. ESPN’s total Little League World Series commitment is 117 games, including 32 from Williamsport and eight additional World Series championship games across several divisions. ESPN3 will add 41 exclusive telecasts of pool play in the Midwest, Northwest, West and Great Lakes regions, starting on Aug. 2.
 
The WWE gave E! something to smile about with reality series Total Divas delivering 1.3 million total viewers during Sunday night’s premiere. That marks E!’s most watched series premiere since “Married to Jonas” in August 2012. Overall, the series drew a 1.1 household score and two million total viewers across both airing so the episode.

FOX Sports 1 continues to beef up its roster, with Brian Urlacher reportedly joining the new channel, according to The Big Lead. The former Bear will be featured on FOX Football Daily.

MLB Network is programming 17 hours of live coverage of the countdown to the Trade Deadline through Wednesday’s 4p deadline, including a six-hour MLB Tonight: Trade Deadline Special starting at 11:00a on July 31. MLB Network will also air a two-hour Trade Deadline edition of MLB Tonight today at 2p as well as dedicated segments throughout The Rundown, MLB Now and Intentional Talk.

MetLife signed on to become an Official Marketing Partner of the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour in a four-year deal that runs through 2016. The agreement hands the company the “Official Life Insurance Company” tag for both tours as well as “Official Aerial Coverage Provider of the PGA TOUR” via its blimp program. The blimps are slate to offer coverage at 29 tournaments this season.

Olympic gold medalist diver Greg Louganis joined the Athlete Ally movement, and will serve as an Ambassador and spearhead an organizational campaign in response to Russia’s anti-LGBT legislation ahead of the upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics. Athlete Ally is planning to work with Louganis, as well as the global LGBT rights organization All Out, and other sports leaders on a coordinated response.

The Professional Bull Riders, F.Y.E. Music Stores and Universal Music Group Distribution are teaming up to offer music fans and PBR supporters in a promotion to give fans a chance to win a trip to the 2013 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals in Las Vegas from Oct. 23-27. The winner will also receive access to the PBR Legends Reunion, other 20th anniversary celebrations, VIP after parties, special events and a VIP “behind the chutes” tour to make this a once in a lifetime experience. Digital & Technology

The Patriot League is working with Campus Insiders to create digital channel the Patriot League Network (PLN) this fall. Under the multi-year deal, the Patriot League will live-stream hundreds of its men and women’s sporting events, add branded studio programming, develop sponsorship opportunities and grow distribution on multiple platforms and devices.

ESPN Digital Media announced that it accounted for one third of all sports category usage across digital platforms in June, according to comScore’s Multi-Platform data. ESPN ranked at the top in the sports category in average minute audience, total minutes of usage and total visits while ESPN digital properties drew 51.7 million unique visitors during the month with 4.6 billion minutes of usage and 597.9million visits.

Level 3 Communications is expanding its ties to MLB Advanced Media to include data center services for the digital media products, including MLB.TV live video streaming. The services will support the archival, backhaul and internet video streaming needs of MLBAM’s media properties and work in conjunction with Level 3’s content delivery network (CDN) and internet services.
