Cynopsis: Kids!

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, February 2, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Lionsgate and Crest Animation Studios are set to co-produce the new 3D animated feature film Norm of the North, the second movie under their three-picture deal.  Lionsgate will distribute the movie in North America, which is expected to be complete by Q1 2012.  Penned by Steven and Daniel Altiere, Norm of the North follows a Polar Bear named Norm, who takes shelter in an abandoned research station when his home in the Arctic begins to crack and disintegrate, and his friends three Artic Lemmings, who copy his every move.  When the polar ice caps continue to break apart and Norm and his pals’ new home is split off and they the group on a whole new journey, to New York City, where Norm is befriended by the head of a multinational company and becomes their mascot.  All is well until Norm realizes that the same new human friends are also responsible for the destruction of the polar ice caps and his home and now he must find a way to stop them.  The first movie under the Lionsgate and Crest pact is the CGI animated family movie Alpha And Omega, featuring the voices of Justin Long, Hayden Panetierre, Christina Ricci, Danny Glover, Dennis Hopper and Larry Miller. Directed by Anthony Bell and Ben Gluck, Alpha And Omega is slated to premiere in October 2010.

Disney Television Animation commences production on Jake and the Never Land Pirates, a new interactive mixed 2D and CG animated preschool series, which will premiere on Playhouse Disney-branded blocks and channels around the world.  Designed to underline the importance of teamwork, the original music-filled series follows Jake and his pirate friends (and parrot) as they travel through Never Land in search of lost treasures and learning to work together and hone their problem solving skills, with the help of the at home audience, to outsmart Captain Hook and his ever-present lackey Smee.  The series stars Colin Ford as Jack, and Madison Pettis (Cory in the House, The Game Plan) as Izzy, and Jonathan Morgan Heit (Bedtime Stories) as Cubby.  Executive produced by Rob LaDuca (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse), Jake and the Never Land Pirates features original music by Loren Hoskins and Kevin Hendrickson of the pirate rock band Captain Bogg & Salty.

Nick Jr., Nickelodeon’s preschool channel formerly known as Noggin, is getting into the Olympic spirit with a new Olympic-themed episode of Wow! Wow! Wow! Wubbzy is executive produced by Susan Miller and Fred Seibert and produced by Bolder Media in association with Starz Media’s Film Roman.

A new Haiti-focused segment of Disney Channel‘s Express Yourself short-form series debuts today on Disney Channel and Disney XD channels around the world, as well as on Disney.com and YouTube.  Designed to help with family and school discussions with kids about the earthquake in Haiti, the 60-second interstitial focuses on a range of themes including empowerment, compassion and being part of a global community.  The spot features Disney Channel stars including Selena Gomez, Emily Osment, Jason Earles and Dylan and Cole Sprouse, Brenda Song among others, all encouraging K6-14 to explore and express their feelings and get involved in making a difference.

Animation company guru studio and zinc Roe, a creator of kid/youth-focused interactive games, are partnering to develop an interactive component for guru’s new preschool series, Justin Time, currently in production for Family Channel (Canada).  Set to launch on Family Channel in spring 2011, Justin Time is a series about fun and friendship that follows the adventures of Justin, his imaginary sidekick Squidgy and his local friend Olive.
