The Federal Communications Commission said yesterday that it is looking into complaints that the new kid-targeted series Zevo-3, which is set to debut on Nicktoons next month and is based on characters initially designed to market Skechers kids shoes, might violate Children’s Television Act of 1990 and FCC rules on advertising in kid’s TV programming. The FCC is seeking public comment on the petition, which was issued last week by Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood. Last week Skechers Entertainment responded to the petition saying it “is was very proud of our show, Zevo-3. We feel that it extols positive values of self-reliance, friendship, teamwork, and problem-solving.” They further stated that, “we’ve all worked hard to ensure that we are within the parameters of FCC requirements.” Also standing by the series, Nickelodeon said “As we previously stated, we do not believe that the show is a program length commercial, nor do we agree that its transmission would violate the Children’s Television Act or any of the Commission’s rules or policies.”
