Good morning. It’s Thursday, November 4, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Vertigo Films and Novel Entertainment begins principal photography in London on the kid-targeted 3D live-action movie Horrid Henry: The Movie, which has the distinction of being the first British kids’ movie to be filmed in 3D. Directed by Nick Moore (Wild Child, Morning Glory) from a screenplay by Lucinda Whiteley, Horrid Henry: The Movie is set for a summer 2011 release. Based on Novel’s Horrid Henry property, the movie stars Anjelica Houston, Rebecca Front, Richard E Grant, Parminder Nagra, as well as Noel Fielding, Jo Brand, Matthew Horne and the wonderful Prunella Scales. Producing the movie are Rupert Preston and Whiteley. Horrid Henry was created by author Francesca Simon. International sales are being handled by Protagonist Pictures, which will debut the film at the AFM. Co-funded with UKFC (UK Film Council), Prescience and Aegis Film Fund, Horrid Henry: The Movie will be distributed by Vertigo Films in the UK.
Cartoon Network will premiere Firebreather, its first CGI original TV movie, on Wednesday, November 24 at 7p. Directed by Peter Chung (Aeon Flux), Firebreather is based on the comic book series of the same name created by Phil Hester and Andy Kuhn. The story revolves around Duncan, a relatively average high school kid whose mom would like him to pay more attention to his homework and his dad, an enormous fire-breathing Kaiju dragon from deep in the earth, encourages him to follow in his earth battling footsteps and take the Kaiju throne. The TV movie adaptation is penned by Jim Kreig (Ben 10: Alien Swarm) and executive produced by Julia Pistor (Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events).
The Hub will host a premiere of the new action/adventure animated series G.I. Joe Renegades, with back-to-back episodes Thanksgiving weekend on Friday, November 26, at 5p and 5:30p. A little earlier in the day ahead of the series premiere, the network will feature the half-hour special Hub Exclusive: G.I. Joe Renegades at 3:30p. The series premiere features Lee Majors (The Six Million Dollar Man) as General Abernathy. Additionally the new series features Charlie Adler, reprising his role as Cobra Commander from G.I. Joe: Resolute, and Marty Isenberg (Ben 10, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Batman the Animated series), and Henry Gilroy (Star Wars: Clone Wars, The Tick, and Batman the Animated Series). Beginning Friday, December 3, the series will air in its regular time period, with an encore presentation at 5p and a new episode at 5:30p. G.I. Joe Renegades is produced by Hasbro Studios for the network.
Sesame Workshop and MetLife Foundation expand their nutrition and healthy habits education outreach program for kids, parents and educators. MetLife Foundation has provided Sesame Workshop with a $500,000 grant, its second, which will allow the Workshop to create new health education focused Sesame Street content in India, via the four-year-old Galli Galli Sim Sim multimedia educational effort, and Mexico, through the multimedia Plaza Sesamo Habitos Saludables (Plaza Sesamo Healthy Habits for Life)
