ESPN unveiled the telecast schedule for 11 of its Big East Conference college football games across ESPN, ABC and ESPN2 for the 2013 season. The slate will include four Thursday and four Friday night games, as well as one Wednesday prime time matchup and two more set for the Friday after Thanksgiving. The selections will include four games for Louisville, three for Cincinnati and two featuring Rutgers. The action begins on August 30 at 8p on ESPN with Texas Tech/SMU.
Sports Illustrated revealed its list of the 50 most powerful people in sports, led by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and followed by NBA commissioner David Stern, AEG owner Philip Anschutz, ESPN President John Skipper, and MLB Commissioner Bud Selig.
With more ratings data in from Nielsen, UFC on FUEL TV 8: Silve vs. Stann on Saturday officially set several new viewership records for the channel, including most-watched program, most-watched day and most-watched prime time ever. The main event drew an average of 485,000 viewers, making it the most-watched show ever on FUEL TV by 90% in total viewers and 89% among M18-49 with 282,000.
BTN is set to present the live announcement of the annual Big Ten basketball awards during the All-Conference Selection Show at 7p on Monday. Dave Revsine hosts alongside analyst Jim Jackson and will reveal All-Big Ten teams as selected by both the coaches and media. Coaches and media will select a Big Ten Player, Freshman and Coach of the Year. The coaches’ selections for Defensive Player and Sixth Man of the Year will also be announced.
HBO hits the weekend with a doubleheader from Brooklyn with World Championship Boxing: Tavoris Cloud vs. Bernard Hopkins and Keith Thurman vs. Jan Zaveck on Saturday at 9p. Boxing then continues with the season premiere of the half-hour boxing news program The Fight Game with Jim Lampley, which debuts live at 11:30p.
Speaking of boxing, the March 8 edition of ESPN’s Friday Night Fights presented by Corona Extra will feature Victor “Mermelada” Cayo and Emanuel “Tranzforma” Taylor in the 10-round main event. Coverage starts at 9p on ESPN2.
Once again, Comcast SportsNet Chicago set a new record with coverage of the history-making run by the Blackhawks. Tuesday night’s game against the Wild drew a 7.86 household rating, according to Nielsen, marking the highest score ever for the outlet. Overall, the channel drew around 274,000 households in the Chicago market for the entire game and posted a 9.24 “peak” rating during the 10p quarter-hour. So far this season through 19 games, the Blackhawks are currently averaging a 5.69 household rating, for a markup of 94% over last year’s comparable games.
ESPN sideline reporter Jenn Brown has departed the company, according to Sports Illustrated. Brown joined in 2010, taking on sideline duties for ESPN’s Thursday Night college football primetime game but shifted to ESPN’s Saturday noon game last year.
JumpBall LLC announced a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Tip-Off Championship event that will be held in Atlanta, Nov. 7-11, 2013. The inaugural men’s college basketball tournament will pit eight schools from all four HBCU conferences in the event.

Today, the New York Knicks will host their first-ever #InstaKnicks Night. During the Knicks game tonight, the team will unleash a new Instagram in-arena/digital activation that encourages fans to tag their photos on Instagram using the #InstaKnicks hashtag for a chance to be featured in Madison Square Garden or on KnicksNow.com.
