Patty Hearst denounces TV projects based on her life

Patricia Hearst denounced two projects about her 1974 kidnapping, a Fox movie based on an unauthorized biography by Jeffrey Toobin, and a CNN documentary on which Toobin is an executive producer. Hearst said in a statement that Toobin’s book “romanticizes my rape and torture and calls my abduction a ‘rollicking adventure,’” adding that she as “no interest in revisiting such a violent and hurtful time in my life.” Hearst said she was inspired to speak out after watching women’s solidarity – and Oprah Winfrey’s powerful speech – at the Golden Globes on Sunday.
