03.22.16 Good morning. It’s Tuesday, March 22, 2016, and this is your weekly issue of Cynopsis: Jobs!
Whether you’re calling on clients, presenting in front of a hundreds at an Upfront event or interviewing for a job, the key to success is communicating persuasively and with confidence. But sometimes that’s easier said than done. If you’re one of the many who lose sleep worrying about speaking in public, Tracey McCormack, Founder and President of McCormack Media Services, and a speaker at the March 30 webinar, How to Master Every Meeting, says there’s hope.
Cynopsis: What can people do to combat nerves before an important meeting or sales call?
McCormack: It’s very normal and natural for even professional speakers to be nervous in the first few minutes prior to presentations. There are tons of great tips and techniques to combat nervousness and raise your confidence level. However – they almost all happen long before you get into the meeting. You can’t wait for minutes before the meeting to do the work that lessens your nerves.
Cynopsis: What is the most effective opening for a presentation?
McCormack: There is a very simple formula for all opening lines of your meeting that should be put into practice every time you do a meeting. The key is not to wing it. Those lines should be scripted and rehearsed and known cold before you walk in the room.
Cynopsis: Any tips for rehearsing?
McCormack: Rehearsal Tip #1-rehearse. A lot. Over and over. Most people skip it altogether because they don’t have time. Seriously? Don’t bother going to the meeting if you’re not going to rehearse the deck you plan to present.
Cynopsis: In your training, you say "never make a presentation again." What do you mean by that?
McCormack: Presentations don’t work. A guided conversation is much harder than a presentation – but one has a much greater success rate than the other.

NBC News Senior Vice President Janelle Rodriguez has been named Daytime Programming Chief at MSNBC. Rodriguez joined NBC News in January of 2015 and manages the editorial direction on breaking news and long-range initiatives and has executive oversight of NBC Nightly News.
Ovation hired Mike Kim as Senior Vice President, Content Distribution. He was previously Vice President, Affiliate Distribution and Partnerships at Participant Media.

Tapad appointed ad industry veteran Joanna McNeil as Vice President of Global Brand and Agency Strategy. She was most recently Senior Vice President, Head of Global Operations for Dentsu Aegis, overseeing the Microsoft account.
