Figure skater/headline maker Adam Rippon declined the opportunity to become an NBC correspondent for the rest of the 2018 Winter Games when he realized it would mean leaving the Olympic team and Village. “My teammates were there for me during my events, and now I NEED to be there for them,” tweeted the U.S. team bronze medalist after news broke prematurely that he’d be taking the job. Rippon said of NBC’s outreach, “I actually found everything out about the offer via twitter …2018 is a wild girl.” So wild for Rippon, in fact, that on Monday’s Today, Hoda Kotb said to the breakout star, “We’re trying to figure out who’s had a better Olympics than you.” (Rippon’s reply: “Maybe somebody who actually won them?”)
