The Weather Channel Announces New 2018 Programming

Network to launch two new original programs and renew popular series

ATLANTA (April 5, 2018) — The Weather Channel today announced new original programming for 2018, including two new shows and new seasons of existing series. New series include “Heroes and Survivors,” premiering on May 20 at 8 pm ET, and “Killer Weather”* (*working title), premiering Fall 2018. The network also announced additional episodes and new seasons of current series, including “The Weather Channel Explores,” “SOS: How to Survive,” “Weather Gone Viral,” and “Top Ten Series.”

“We’re excited to introduce a new slate of weather-related original programming to our roster of on-air content for 2018,” said Howard Sappington, Vice President of Programming at The Weather Channel. “While live programming is at the heart of what we do, original programs give our viewers interesting and unexpected views into the world of weather, climate change and more. Outside of live broadcasts, our original content and programming adds value to the viewer experience by tapping into a variety of genres while tying the show back to weather.”

Heroes and Survivors

Premieres on Sunday, May 20 at 8 pm ET

Killer Weather* (*working title)

Premieres Fall 2018

The thrilling suspense of Murder Calls meets the high stakes of extreme weather in this gripping true crime series that examines spellbinding murders where weather played a central role in solving or covering up the crime. Each episode, featuring experts and forensic meteorologists, is shaped as a real-life mystery with weather ultimately playing the pivotal role in how the deadly event was resolved.

The Weather Channel Explores

We tackle some of the most compelling issues surrounding weather and climate in this documentary style series. These episodes introduce the viewer to the unforgettable characters and places being impacted by weather and the environment, from the disappearing places due to climate change, to snakes, sharks and outer space. This franchise also explores specials on dramatic, current weather events like the Montecito mudslide and the historic 2017 hurricane season.

SOS: How to Survive

SOS: How to Survive presents gripping true stories of people who suddenly find themselves in a life and death battle with the elements. Host, Creek Stewart and his team of experts will show us innovative skills that teach us how to make it out alive.

Weather Gone Viral

With billions of smartphones populating the planet, it’s now more likely than ever that a camera is rolling when an extreme weather event happens. People are sharing these videos online and the very best of these clips have been selected for the new season. This incredible footage features first-hand accounts from those who were involved or who witnessed these amazing weather moments. Our experts and meteorologists weigh-in on these viral moments and we include comedians this season for reactions to some of the funniest videos from the world of weather.

Top 10 Series

Top 10 is one of our most popular, audience-pleasing series. These hour-long shows countdown The Top 10 most amazing, powerful and dramatic weather events known to man, from the fascinating meteorology to the incredible stories of those that experienced these extraordinary events. This season we will feature some incredible, cutting-edge augmented reality to our episodes.
