Google announced Thursday that HBO Go is now available on Chromecast. The device was already offered Netflix, YouTube, Hulu Plus and Pandora, but Game of Thrones fans were out of luck… until now. HBO subscribers can stream HBO content from their iOS device, Android app or the HBO Go app.
ABC promises “unexpected surprises” on the penultimate episode of season 17 of Dancing with the Stars on Monday, November 25 at 8p, when three couples will be left standing after one is eliminated at the end of the night. Lady Antebellum and Enrique Iglesias perform on Tuesday’s two-hour finale, starting at 9p.
In a discussion with investors that included talk of cost-cutting and financial discipline, Sony Pictures CEO Michael Lynton revealed a “significant shift in emphasis from motion pictures to higher margin television” production and distribution as part of the company’s fiscal plan.
Part of the Weather Channel‘s makeover, unveiled last week, was updating the sound, a job that fell to Man Made Music. “It was a huge priority because weather is personal as you plan your day,” founder and lead composer of Man Made Music Joel Beckerman tells Cynopsis. “We wanted tracks that evoked the feel of the weather you would experience that day. General Motors has signed on to sponsor USA‘s third annual documentary featuring NFL players, part of the net’s campaign to fight discrimination. In addition to NFL Characters Unite, airing Friday, January 31, 2014 at 7p, USAs initiative will include a web series, premiering Monday December 2, on CharactersUnite.com.
Joan Rivers is in trouble with the Writers Guild of America East again. After avoiding a disciplinary hearing last month over allegedly violating the union’s rules during the ongoing Fashion Police writer’s strike, Rivers called the strikers “idiots” during an interview with comedy site Splitsider. “We are exploring all options,” said WGA East president Michael Winship.
Amazon.com announced an agreement on Thursday with film studio A24 (Spring Breakers, The Bling Ring) making Amazon’s Prime Instant Video the exclusive premium subscription home for all A24 titles.
As a complement to its 400 hours of uplifting holiday programming, UP is sending “Top Secret Santa” teams to five cities in a Christmas-wrapped mini-van to deliver cash and gifts to people in need. Vignettes of the visits will air on the net starting Sunday, December 1, during the movie Silver Bells at 7p.
Fitness guru Gilad Janklowicz is back for another season of kickboxing and cardio bursts in Discovery Fit & Health‘s Gilad’s Bodies in Motion: 30th Anniversary on Monday, December 2 at 6a – and he’s bringing back people featured through the years. “It was truly the experience of a lifetime,” Janklowicz tells Cynopsis. “A few tears were shed – mostly joyous ones.”
Hallmark Movie Channel‘s My Gal Sunday makes its premiere Saturday, January 18 at 9p. The Entertainment One Television production stars Rachel Blanchard (Clueless), Cameron Mathison (All My Children) and Jack Wagner (Bold and Beautiful) in a mystery adapted from stories by Mary Higgins Clark.
Outspoken beauty pageant coach Kim Gravel struts her stuff in upcoming Lifetime docu-series Kim of Queens. The Relativity Television production premieres Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at 10p, then settles into its regular Tuesday at 10p timeslot following similarly larger-than-life Abby Lee Miller on Dance Moms.
Another docu-series premiering on New Years Day, Oxygen‘s Tattoos After Dark, uncovers the “wild and over-the-top antics” at two LA tattoo parlors. The 495 Productions show debuts at 11p, after a new ep of competition series Best Ink at 10p.
Next month’s roster of Saturday Night Live hosts was announced by NBC: Paul Rudd (December 7, with musical guests One Direction), John Goodman (December 14, with Kings of Leon) and Jimmy Fallon (December 21, with Justin Timberlake).
TLC is offering a… different kind of holiday special. My Crazy Obsession: Christmas Collection 2 follows a man who holds the world record for Christmas lights, a woman who eats almost nothing but gingerbread and a couple of Santa fanatics on Saturday, December 7 at 9p.
A one-hour documentary on Investigation Discovery recalls the tragic events of December 7, 1993, when gunman Colin Ferguson opened fire on the Long Island Railroad. The show’s producer, Charlie Minn, who lived 10 minutes away from the massacre and lost a classmate, said it was important to “finally give the many victims of this crime a voice.” ID Films: Terror on a Train premieres Wednesday, December 4 at 10p.
Encouraged by its success with CBS soap The Young and the Restless, TVGN will air day-after repeats of CBS‘s The Bold and the Beautiful starting Monday, December 2, as well as 11a Sunday marathons. CBS Corp. owns the entertainment net with Lionsgate.
The season of snowmen and Santa may be fast approaching, but HGTV is taking a different tack with two docuseries set in sunny Hawaii. A sophomore edition of Hawaii Life, following local realtors and their clients, debuts tonight at 9p; new series Beachfront Bargain Hunt, focusing on affordable properties, premieres Sunday, November 25 at 9p.
NASCAR driver Clint Bower faces dangers away from the track on Meet the McMillans, when he pursues his life-long dream of hunting mountain lions. The episode airs on Sportsman Channel Sunday, November 24 at 8:30p.
Four teams of survivalists go off the grid in NatGeo reality competition Ultimate Survival Alaska. It’s sled dog races, “snow coffin” beds and squirrels for dinner beginning Sunday, December 15 at 9p.
Leah Remini (King of Queens), fresh off her Dancing with the Stars stint, has been cast in a multi-episode arc in TV Land‘s The Exes. Remini will play Stuart’s (David Alan Basche) tough-talking sister, Nicki. The Exes, which earned an extension of its third season, returns to the net with new episodes Wednesday, December 11 at 10:30p.
Hawaii Five-0 promoted Chi McBride to series regular. McBride joined the show for its fourth season premiere as SWAT Captain Lou Grover. “The only thing I ever wanted in my career was to be on CBS, the home of my idol Jackie Gleason,” McBride said. The CBS drama air Fridays at 9p.
David Bradley (Game of Thrones) has been cast in upcoming FX series The Strain, replacing John Hurt. The high concept thriller is expected to bow in July 2014.
DIY Network announced Winter Haven, FL as the site for the eighth season of its interactive home-building series, Blog Cabin. Starting Tuesday, January 7, viewers can cast votes online about design decisions in the renovation of a 1920s lakeside home, with a chance to win the vacation getaway.
Drew and Jonathan Scott, fresh off their listing in People’s Sexiest Men Alive issue, return for season two of HGTV‘s Buying and Selling on Wednesday, December 4 at 9p. Coincidence? “Since Property Brothers just completed its fifth season run, we had already planned the premiere of Buying and Selling,” Julie Taylor, SVP programming and planning for HGTV and DIY tells Cynopsis. “They are among our most popular stars.”
MTV‘s Ridiculousness, a comedy clips show with Rob Dyrdek, returns for season four on January 2 at 10p. Two weeks later it’s paired with the sixth and final season of reality show Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory, debuting at 11p. Holiday special A Very Merry Ridiculousness, “guest starring Santa Claus,” airs Saturday, November 29 at 8p.
Fox Japan is grabbing attention – and a likely Guinness World Records spot – with a 10-day marathon of CBS series NCIS. The marathon, beginning Sunday, December 29 at 11p local time, leads into the premiere of the procedural’s current eleventh season on Fox Japan.
National Geographic Channels International announced a special tracking comet ISON’s journey around the sun. Comet of the Century, produced with Darlow Smith Productions, premieres across Hong Kong and Southeast Asia on Sunday, November 24.
Fox International Channels will broadcast China’s Taipei Golden Horse Awards live for the first time in territories including the U.S., Canada, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand on November 23 on its Star Chinese Movies Channel. The ceremony in the area is equivalent to the Academy Awards.
What will Russians make of American Pickers? A+E Networks announced History and History HD bowed on Russian satellite channel NTV+, and will roll out on Russia’s Rostelecom next year. “Russia is important territory for us,” said Dean Possenniskie, managing director for A+E Networks, Europe, calling the move “an important milestone.”

ABC‘s Modern Family lost four tenths of a point in A18-49 Wednesday, dropping to a 3.4/9 rating, but that was enough to continue its run this season as broadcast’s highest-rated series. Nashville got a one tenth bump, to tie its seven-week high of 1.6/6.
CBS‘s Criminal Minds scored a 2.8/8 rating in A18-49, matching its season high, and drew a season high 12.3 million viewers. CSI matched its rating high with 2.1/6.
Face the Nation drew 4.6 million viewers for November 17 coverage of the 50th anniversary of the President Kennedy assassination, the CBS News show’s biggest audience in twelve years.
