Zodiak Kids, Zodiak Media’s kid’s production/distribution arm, inks a worldwide pre-sale deal with Nickelodeon for the new 3D animated preschool series Quick Quack, Duck! (52×11). The agreement will see the series air on Nick Jr. channels around the world including in the US. Produced by Zodiak Kids production company The Foundation in partnership with creators QQD Limited and Korean animation studio High 1 Entertainment, Quick Quack, Duck! is a pop-up world of creative play that encourages viewers to use their imagination. As part of this pre-sale acquisition, Nick Jr. will work with The Foundation and QQD on the creative development of the series. Quick Quack, Duck! is currently in pre-production. Based on the short film The Happy Duckling (2008), the series follows the adventures of Remi, an inquisitive 7-year-old boy, and his devoted duck named Quack. In their Pop-up World, they use tabs, pulls and other devices to trigger pop ups that create an interactive story. The series is co-created by Yvette Kaplan (Ice Age, Beavis & Butthead) and Gili Dolev (The Happy Duckling). The Foundation’s Nigel Pickard and Vanessa Hill are the executive producers alongside Yvette Kaplan and QQD’s Ronen Shani.
CBBC (UK) orders Pet School (10×30), a new informational series from UK-based Cineflix Productions. Pet School focuses on eight kids who want nothing more than to own a pet and gives them a reality check about the daily reality of caring for an animal and all the responsibilities grooming, feeding, cleaning day in and day out. The series will also feature celebrity owners and experts offering their insights into some of the more bizarre animals kept as pets. At the end of the series the kids decide whether they still want a pet… and they find out whether their parents think they are truly capable, committed and up to the challenge of pet ownership. Pet School is the heart of a BBC season on pet ownership. The series also has the support of the PDSA (People’s Dispensary For Sick Animals), a noted UK veterinary charity.
Evolution, a newly launched brand management firm, and Rollman Entertainment are partnering with creator Kevin Grevioux on the rights to Monstroids, which features a new twist on classic monsters from the upcoming Astounding Comics & Darkstorm Studios comic book series. The deal will see Evolution, Rollman and Grevioux work together to develop and produce new content including an animated TV series targeting boys 6-12, as well as create a global brand strategy, licensing and retail development program for the property. Half monster and half machine, the Monstroids are the most advanced man-made creatures ever constructed. Frankenborg, Gearwolf, Draculoid, Quasimotor, Harponica, Jackhammer, Mummitron, Drillbit, Megahurtz, Aquatech – were created by the sinister Dr. D. L. Frankenheim to assist in his fiendish plot to take over the world. But when Frankenheim’s creations rebel against their megalomaniacal master, the Monstroids come together to battle against them and preserve justice. The Monstroids TV series is currently slated for a Q2 2014 launch, with plans to have products in key categories (toys, video games, apparel, accessories, fast food, beverages and theme parks) available at mass retail in fall 2014.
Breakthrough Entertainment and Sinking Ship Entertainment enter into two new licensing deals for the Nick Jr. TV series’ Dino Dan. Signing on as Dino Dan licensees are Fiesta Toys (plush toys) and Hybrid Apparel (T-shirts). The Licensing Shop brokered the deals. Breakthrough Entertainment also extends its license agreement with Live Nation’s Musictoday, for the official Dino Dan merchandise store, www.dinodan.shop.musictoday.com, which offers a range of Dino Dan branded merchandise including apparel, toys, DVDs and accessories. Other Dino Dan licensing partners include Ruckus Media (e-books), NCircle Entertainment (DVDs), Pioneer Balloons and Geoworld (toys).
Mind Candy, creators of Moshi Monsters, and Activision Publishing, a subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, unveil plans to release Moshi Monsters: Moshlings Theme Park, the second title in the Moshi Monsters video game series, for Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS in time for holiday 2012. Moshi Monsters: Moshlings Theme Park, developed by Black Lantern Studios, invites players to restore the legendary Moshi theme park to its former splendor along the way unlocking six zones by successfully building attractions and rescuing the scattered Moshlings. Additionally, Nintendo 3DS users will be able can interact with other Nintendo 3DS players via the StreetPass feature and play games to bring the Moshling characters to life in a whole new way.
Majesco Entertainment, a provider of video games, and development partner Chaotic Moon, will bring Hello Kitty to Nintendo 3DS for the first time in the new game Hello Kitty Picnic with Sanrio Friends, set for release in North America for holiday 2012. The new title Hello Kitty and Sanrio pals set off on a picnic adventure, which features 10 mini games including Hidden Object, Spot the Difference, and Picnic Blanket Checkers to collect goodies for the party. Players can also explore and decorate various environments including Hello Kitty’s bedroom and kitchen. Players can earn apples to receive special outfits and accessories for Hello Kitty, interact with her via the 3DS touch screen and play with friends in a variety of multiplayer modes.
LeapFrog partners with Zinkia Entertainment to feature Pocoyo content on the LeapPad tablet. The Pocoyo content, including episodes from the first two seasons of the series and the special, Pocoyo and the Space Circus, will be available in English and for the first time Spanish this summer via the LeapFrog App Center. The deal was negotiated by Evolution, the North American licensing agent for Pocoyo,
Nickelodeon Consumer Products in Germany renews its publishing license with Egmont Ehapa for German language SpongeBob SquarePants magazines, furthering its nine-year partnership. The new deal covers SpongeBob Schwammkopf magazines targeted to boys 4-10 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and runs until the end of 2015. The magazine will be available across all retail channels from airport and duty free stores to bookstores, toy stores, newsstands, department stores and supermarkets.

Elsewhere, Zodiak Kids also reveals that Little Princess, produced by The Illuminated Film Company, will join the Queen’s Jubilee celebration this weekend in the UK on Channel 5’s Milkshake! Tomorrow, Saturday, June 2, fans of Little Princess will be excited to see her joining the Milkshake! hosts in the studio to help celebrate the Jubilee festivities. Milkshake! will host a special Diamond Jubilee party with singing and dancing, and a special party themed episode of Little Princess as part of the Jubilee themed line-up. Throughout the weekend Milkshake! will show Jubilee emails and pictures sent in by the viewers. Various activities, including making your own crown, will be featured on the Milkshake! WordGirl battles robots all week long during Tobey’s Robot Summer on PBS Kids June 11-15, 2012. The weeklong programming event includes a premiere episode on Monday, June 11. WordGirl is produced by Scholastic Media.
DHX Media and its subsidiary W!ldbrain Entertainment have signed a new broadcast deal and appoints a new licensing agent for the preschool series Animal Mechanicals (73×11) in Spain, as it seeks to expand the licensing programs for its library of internationally distributed TV properties. TVE signs on as broadcast partner for Animal Mechanicals in the territory, while Enjoy S.L has been appointed as licensing agent for Spain and Portugal. TVE will launch Animal Mechanicals on Thursday, June 28, and then the series will air Monday-Friday. Currently in its third season, Animal Mechanicals airs around the world including on commissioning channel Kids CBC (Canada), as well as on The Hub (US), Disney Channels in the UK and Asia, Radio-Canada, Discovery Latin America, HOP (Romania), EBS (Korea); Al-Jazeera Children Channel and Prava I Prevodi, who acquired the title for Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro.
Nickelodeon launches the new Nick Jr. Draw and Play app, which invites younger kids to express themselves by drawing, painting and coloring with some of their favorite preschool characters. Kids can get creative and use their imaginations alongside Nick Jr. characters including Dora and Diego, Bubble Guppies, Team Umizoomi and the Backyardigans. The app activities feature eight different painting/drawing brushes, coloring pages featuring Nick Jr. characters, eCards, picture ideas, animated stickers, magic wands, spinning splatter-tops, fireworks, animated tutorials, and parental controls, among other things.
