Good morning. It’s Friday, January 18, 2012, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.
Here’s part two of the regional US lineups of NHL games this season, this time for the Western Conference.
Nashville: FOX Sports Tennessee carries the bulk of the games with 43 on deck and another three games will be carried on FSTN’s sister network, SportSouth. The games on both of the channels will be called by Pete Weber and Terry Crisp.
Chicago: Comcast SportsNet, will deliver 39 live regular season Blackhawks games with the tandem of Pat Foley and Eddie Olczyk calling the action. Susannah Collins will be the primary on-site reporter.
Detroit: Fox Sports Detroit will televise a minimum of 41 regular season games for the Detroit Red Wings, with six slated to air on FSD Plus. Calling the action again this season are play-by-play man Ken Daniels and analyst Mickey Redmond.
St. Louis: FOX Sports Midwest will televise 41 Blues games. John Kelly returns to the broadcast booth for his eighth consecutive season with the team alongside analyst Darren Pang.
Columbus: Fox Sports Ohio is on deck to offer 47 Blue Jackets’ game this year, with play-by-play announcer Jeff Rimer, color analyst Bill Davidge and rink-side reporter Natalie Taylor.
Minnesota: FOX Sports North and the Minnesota Wild announced a 44-game telecast schedule for the 2013 season featuring new play-by-play announcer Anthony LaPanta joining color analyst Mike Greenlay.
Colorado: Altitude is carrying 43 games this year, with Mike Haynes and Peter McNab returning as the play-by-play and color analyst for all of Colorado Avalanche broadcasts. Altitude will utilize ALT2 for four Avalanche games this season.
Los Angeles: The NHL Champions will see up to 41 games on FOX Sports West. Kings television play-by-play announcer Bob Miller and color commentator Jim Fox return to broadcast Kings games this season.
Dallas: FOX Sports Southwest offers up 45 Dallas Stars telecasts with fifteen set for FOX Sports Southwest Plus. Ralph Strangis handles play-by-play with Daryl Reaugh once again taking analyst duties.
San Jose: Comcast SportsNet California will broadcast 47 of the team’s games, featuring long-time play-by-play announcer Randy Hahn and Drew Remenda.
Phoenix: FOX Sports Arizona will carry 44 Coyotes games featuring Matt McConnell and Tyson Nash.
Anaheim: The Ducks divvy up its slate with 28 game on Prime Ticket, 14 on FOX Sports West and 5 heading to KDOC. Brian Hayward enters his 20th season as color analyst with John Ahlers in his 11th season as play-by-play announcer.
UFC on FOX is back on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 8p, and will feature a lightweight champion clash between 2012 UFC Fighter of the Year Benson Henderson and top contender Nate Diaz. The sixth installment of FOX UFC Saturday is highlighted by Demetrious Johnson’s first title defense in the flyweight division against top contender John Dodson. UFC announcers Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan call all bouts on FOX Sports with the preliminary matches airing live on FX. FSMG’s coverage of FOX UFC Saturday starts this weekend on Jan. 19 at 5p on FOX Sports with UFC’s Road to the Octagon.
World Golf Hall-of-Famer Lanny Wadkins is back in the broadcast booth this week, joining Golf Channel’s Champions Tour coverage starting today at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai. Wadkins will serve as lead analyst for the network’s 22 Champions Tour events.
CBS announced that the network will carry The Craig Ferguson Super Bowl Special from New Orleans on Sun., Feb. 3. The late-night host will be joined by the likes of Steve Carell, Drew Brees, Neil Patrick Harris and Julie Chen.
The NBA will once again continue its tradition of celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day worldwide with nine games on deck with tributes throughout the day to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, including four games nationally televised in the US on ESPN, TNT and NBA TV. The league has also teamed up with eight international television partners to present NBA Slam Dunk Monday, reaching fans in 72 countries and territories in 24 languages and carry up to 22 hours of live game action.
Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel enters its 19th season next week, returning on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 10p on HBO. Segments will include a look at the Rockets pick Royce White, who has yet to play do to an anxiety disorder that, among other things, makes air travel extremely difficult for him.
Global sports and entertainment marketing company Octagon made some changes to its senior management team, naming twenty-year company veteran Jeff Ehrenkranz to the position of Managing Director, Europe, Middle East and India where he will oversee operations and new business across the region. Jeff takes over from Glenn Lovett who is leaving for a new career opportunity. In addition, Octagon UK named Tim Collins and Garry Dods as co-MD of Octagon UK.
HRTV announced that coverage of the 42nd Annual Eclipse Awards will also be simulcast on Sirius XM Radio (Sirius channel 93 and streamed online through the SiriusXM Internet Radio App and at SiriusXM.com) as an extension of their recent broadcasting agreement. The Awards will be hosted by Jeannine Edwards of ESPN and air live on HRTV and SiriusXM at 8p.
ESPN revealed the qualified entities representing more than 20 North American cities that will move on to the second phase of the RFP process to host the X Games. Two North American cities will be selected as X Games hosts with the hosting periods running for three consecutive years. The 17 cities range from Aspen/Snowmass, CO for the winter X Games to Charlotte for the summer version.
This morning ESPN Radio’s Mike Greenberg and Colin Cowherd will take on a seven hour on-air marathon from 6a to 1p.
NBC Sports Network announced that it will air the NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse game between No.1 Loyola Greyhounds and No. 2 Maryland Terrapins on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 1:30p, marking a rematch of last year’s NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship Game in which Loyola defeated Maryland, 9-3.
SNY announced that the high school basketball 2013 SNY Invitational will tip off Friday, January 25th,at 6pm and showcase Boys and Girls High School, Cardinal Hayes High School, Long Island Lutheran High School and perennial powerhouse St. Anthony High School the 2011 SNY Invitational champion. During this year’s event, SNY will make donations totaling more than $20,000 in funds to the participating high schools. On-air talent will include Tarik Turner and play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt.
Weekly half-hour show WWE Saturday Morning Slam will have a new timeslot, according to WWE and Saban Brands. The show will now shift to 10:30a starting this Saturday on The CW.

Users will be able to play for free, challenge friends, and win prizes by entering exclusive tournaments and sweepstakes. The Golf Channel Virtual Tour will be promoted both online and on air, including on morning show, Morning Drive.
CBC is offering fans new ways to enjoy hockey, with the debut of Hockey Night in Canada: 2nd Screen presented by Budweiser, launching tomorrow at CBCSports.ca. By signing in using a Facebook login, fans can test their knowledge and try their luck at predicting team and player performances to earn points and win weekly prizes as well as a grand prize at the end of the season. Other features include a live scoreboard that tracks users’ point total, a live Twitter feed and a live scoreboard.
