Good morning. It’s Friday, April 20, 2012, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.
For the first time, all of the Premier League Survival Sunday matches will air live on US television with FOX slating nine of those games on its family of networks (ESPN will reportedly have one as well). Survival Sunday marks the final day of England’s Barclays Premier League season, with all 20 teams from the league playing each other in a on May 13. FX, along with FOX Sports Media Group networks SPEED, FSN, FUEL TV, FOX Soccer, FOX Soccer Plus and FOX Deportes, as well as digital platforms FOXSoccer.com and FOX Soccer 2Go, will carry nine matches live on at 10a. Pre-match coverage begins at 9:30a on all networks with the exception of SPEED, with all outlets carrying post-match coverage. At the end of Survival Sunday, the occupying the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth positions are eliminated from the league and three teams from the second division are then brought onboard.
The Premier League continues to be good to FOX Soccer, which is available in over 40% of US cable homes, scoring the two most-watched soccer matches on ad-supported English language cable networks last week, according to Nielsen. Back-to-back live Barclay’s Premier League and FA Cup matches Sunday on FOX Soccer took the top two positions among total viewers with Tottenham/Chelsea scoring as the most-watched game of the week in sport’s category with 338,000 viewers.
ESPN revealed that comedian and actor Rob Riggle will host the 2012 ESPYs on July 11 at 9p. To celebrate the 20th ESPYS, program highlights will include special guest appearances from several former hosts such as Samuel Jackson (1999, 2001, 2002, and 2009) Lance Armstrong (2006), Justin Timberlake (2008), Seth Meyers (2010/2011) and others.
NASCAR Sprint Cup racing on FOX on Saturday scored a 4.0/7 with 6.8 million viewers, according to Nielsen, to run even with last year’s performance and ranked as the highest-rated and most-watched event of the weekend. This season, NASCAR Sprint Cup racing on FOX is averaging a 5.3/11 with 8.8 million viewers, off pace by 5% from last year’s numbers.
ESPN series E:60 returns for its Spring 2012 premiere on Tuesday, April 24 at 7p on the flagship network with an NFL Draft Special. The program will mark the first a four-episode slate with shows April 24, May 1, 8 and 15.
The MSG+ telecast of Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals between the Rangers and Senators delivered a 3.43 rating in the Male 25 to 54 demo, according to Nielsen, in the New York market on Wednesday night.
The fourth season of Golf Channel’s original series The Haney Project wraps up with a special one-hour season finale on Monday, April 23 at 9p, pitting Adam Levine, Sugar Ray Leonard, Mario Batali and Angie Everhart against each other in an ultimate final showdown.
Tennis Channel is offering exclusive coverage of the U.S. Fed Cup team’s playoff competition against Ukraine in Kharkiv, Ukraine, this weekend, with live telecasts Saturday, April 21 beginning at noon, and Sunday, April 22 at 10:30a.
Waterman Broadcasting and the Miami Dolphins have agreed on a new two-year deal that will keep Miami Dolphins programming on NBC2 and ABC7, according to the channels. This year, three of the four preseason games will run on NBC2 with the August 10th game against the Buccaneers likely headed for ABC7 due to conflict with the 2012 London Summer Olympics. The two-year deal includes carriage of “Dolphins Weekly” and the “Miami Dolphins Coach’s Show” as well as specials.

Turner Sports and the NCAA announced more than 400 combined hours of live streaming video from more than 200 events for the 2012 NCAA spring championships on NCAA.com and the free NCAA Sports iPhone app. Coverage begins Friday, April 27, with the inaugural Division III Men’s Volleyball Championship from Springfield, Mass., and continues through June 3. A total of 30 championships will be streamed live exclusively on NCAA.com including Division I men’s and women’s golf, Division I men’s and women’s tennis, National Collegiate men’s volleyball, National Collegiate women’s water polo and Division II and III men’s lacrosse. In addition, NCAA.com will also stream 20 selection shows to reveal the championship fields and key matchups.
The 2012 MLB All-Star Game Online Ballot launches today and will be up through June 28 at MLB.com and all 30 club sites. Last year’s program produced a record of 32.5 million ballots cast.
