Reasons Interviewers Ask These 5 Questions
To answer a question properly, it helps if you know why the question is being asked. Once you know why, you can respond in more intelligent manner.
Why do you want to work for this company?
The interviewer wants to know about your knowledge of the company. An answer like, "I thought it would be a fun place to work," isn't going to cut it. If you know about the company, and you better, now is the time to let the interviewer know.
Why are you looking for a new job?
Time to tell the truth, briefly and sugar coated if needed. Never speak poorly about your past situation, disgruntlement is not an asset.
What is the best way to establish good working relationships with new co-workers?
Your answer will demonstrate if you are a team player, loose cannon or stay under the radar type of person. Most likely the interviewer is looking for a team player, and team players will answer with at least these three components. Enthusiasm, communication, and remembering everyone's name as quickly as possible. Remembering peoples' names might not sound important enough to bring up at an interview, but you should. It shows you care about your co-workers.
Where do you see yourself 12 months from today?
The interviewer is trying to determine if you are driven and confident in your work skills. The correct answer might be a bit of a tightrope walk, somewhere between humble and cocky. Sometimes it's best to be a little vague by saying something like, "I would love to be in a position of more responsibility conducive to my skill set, while helping the company achieve its goals."
What are your greatest career achievements?
These should be the same three achievements you wrote in your resume, in the bullet pointed, bold font section, directly below your profile statement. This is your chance to expand upon those statements and tell the interview WHY you consider them to be the highlights of your career.
An interview goes well if you can answer each question with the confidence of the easiest question. Consider each question as an opportunity to display your knowledge, enthusiasm, confidence, and your ability to communicate in a effective manner. If you have accomplished this, you should hear from the company again.

As a recruiting professional, it is one of my favorite resources. Before I get on a call or have a meeting with anyone, I check out their LinkedIn profile ahead of time. It gives me all the information I need to go into my meeting informed about their background. I have talked with many employers who do the same before they even look at a resume.

There are so many people and candidates that I have connected with via LinkedIn and I can honestly say that I have placed several of the candidates that I have found through my networks there. So get moving and build your own personal "brand," your network will notice and expand! Who knows, you might acquire some new clients or find a new job in 2012 because of this great professional networking site!

I've been out of work for almost a year, is it time to get creative with my resume and cover letter. Creative as in sending my documents in on unusual color paper, sending it wrapped in brown paper and string, that type of thing.
Creative is good, anything to make yourself stand out, yes, but only to a point. How many resumes are you actually sending via mail anyway? Stop, think digital. Send via email. If you don't have a computer, go to a library.
If you want to get creative... put on your suit and stop by the place of business that you are targeting and drop off a resume in person. I have a friend who was looking for was job in nursing and did exactly that, the hiring manager was there at the time, met with her that day and hired her on the spot. It can happen!
Why do employers run blind ads and are they even worth pursuing, or worse, are they just a way from criminals to get personal information?
Usually a blind ad is run by a third party recruiter or when a confidential search is being done. I don't know of any "criminals" out there spending the money to run ads, but I guess you never know - I would just be very careful what ads you are applying to, and don't have too much of your personal information on there (social security etc)

Joel Schwartz was hired at REELZCHANNEL as Director/Affiliate Sales and Marketing, Eastern Region. Joel will be based in Atlanta. Prior to this new appointment, Joel was heading national IPTV sales for EchoStar Satellite Services.
Alexandra Shapiro has a new and expanded role at USA Network as EVP/Marketing and Digital. Alexandra's duties cover creative oversight on consumer and strategic marketing, digital, brand efforts, promotions and business development for the network. Alexandra assumes the full marketing scope for the network from Chris McCumber, who was named Co-President, USA Network one year ago, and to whom she continues to report. Alexandra joined USA Network more than ten years ago and most recently was SVP.
Vibe Media | Access Network, operator of the brands Vibe, Uptown, BlackBook and Access Network added David Cohn as EVP/Digital Sales and Marketing. In his new role, David will report to Ari Horowitz, CEO of Vibe Media | Access Network.
Enrique Acevedo has joined Univision Communications Inc. in the company's News team. Enrique will begin April 23 as Co-Anchor of the late evening news, Noticiero Univision Edicion Nocturna along with Ilia Calderon.
Beginning next Monday, Doug Murray, a film and television lawyer will join the entertainment media law firm Taylor Klein Oballa LLP. Doug has been practicing entertainment law exclusively since 2002. Doug's hiring expands the Film/TV department at TKO LLP which holds the productions companies Tricon Films & Television, Mongrel Media, Bron Studios and Cactus Three as clients.
Rebecca Lambrecht, previously with ReignDeer Entertainment and Larry Rudolph Management has established a new company called the Chicane Group with offices based in West Hollywood. Chicane Group offers services such as talent producing, artist management as well as a full service travel agency including travel management. The new company will further be involved with consulting for entertainment companies and individuals.
Effective immediately, Litton Entertainment appointed Mark Cooper as Director/Sales. Most recently, Mark was VP/Programming and Acquisitions for the CBS Television Stations Group in New York.
Curt Hecht was named Chief Global Revenue Officer at The Weather Channel Companies (TWCC). In this newly-minted role, Curt will head all strategic definition and management of TWCC's international business. Additionally, Curt will oversee digital and cable ad sales revenue activities. He reports to David Kenny, Chairman/CEO.
HGTV and DIY Network appointed Steven Lerner as VP/Programming where he will head the network's programming team based in Knoxville. Steven reports to Kathleen Finch, SVP/GM, HGTV.
Scott Basilotta has joined Danny Lipford Media, owned and operated by national home improvement expert Danny Lipford. Scott's new position is that of Director/Television Syndication for the nationally-syndicated show, Today's Homeowner with Danny Lipford. Scott will be in charge of all syndication activities for this program. Most recently, Scott was with American Latino TV as Director/Affiliate Relations and Distribution.
