It's Tuesday, November 28, 2006, and this is your first early morning Multi-Cultural briefing. HISPANIC MARKET: Viacom's MTV Tr3s and Bela Broadcasting inked an affiliation agreement that will bring two more of the top ten U.S. Hispanic markets into the network's distribution plan. The new full power broadcast stations in the LA and Phoenix markets will give the U.S. Latino youth-focused network an additional 15% national Hispanic market coverage. With the affiliation of Bela Broadcasting's KBEH-TV Channel 63 in LA and KMOH-TV and KEJR-LP in the Phoenix DMA, MTV Tr3s is now carried on 32 broadcast stations in 19 DMAs. Alamo Heights SA Holdings, LLC announced the launch of its royalty-free, cross-cultural, Tex-Mex cyber-novela, www.alamoheightsSA.com . The melodramedy's content was created specifically for Internet and Mobile devices. "Where are the ads?", you ask. The show uses disruptive product placement/brand integration technology instead of the traditional 30 second TV ad. The soap/novela/cable drama mix, mainly targeted at the A18-30 demo and females in particular, is about the lives of two families, one located in San Antonio, Texas and their lingerie manufacturing counterpart in Monterrey, Mexico. It is made up of 40 four-act episodes, each lasting approx 7-9 minutes, with the first 12 pilot episodes to be released up to December 20. Full episodes in both Spanish and English will be also available immediately on multiple ad-supported Internet networks and portals, on broadcast TV (LAT TV - LatinAmerica Broadcasting, Inc.), and on alamoheightsSA.com. The ad-supported Internet networks include Brightcove, Guba, VEOH and Kiptronic/Liberated Syndication for iTunes. Alamo Heights SA Holdings was formed by zyntroPICS INC., El Mundo Entertainment, and private Texas investment groups. Univision, in partnership with the Kaiser Family Foundation, will air a 30-minute special titled "Enterate… SIDA, 25 Anos Despues" (Get the Facts!…AIDS, 25 Years Later), hosted by news anchor Jorge Ramos on December 2 (check local listings for time). As part of Univision's health initiative "Salud es Vida…! Enterate!" (Lead a Healthy Life…Get the Facts!), the special will explore AIDS among Hispanics in the U.S. This special will feature an interview with Univision's talk show host Cristina Saralegui, founder of Arriba La Vida (Up With Life), a non-profit foundation that informs and educates Hispanics on HIV/AIDS. The December 2 special will take an in-depth look at the status of HIV/AIDS across the nation, including testimonials of people living with HIV/AIDS and highlights of local and national programs available to educate the community. It will tackle the issue of HIV/AIDS and the risky behaviors associated with contracting the deadly disease with celeb guests and health experts. December 2 programming will include The Parkers: She's Positive at 1030a, two Girlfriends episodes (The Pact at 9p and The Fast Track & The Furious at 930p), and The Down Low Exposed at 10p. Rap-It-Up Film: Let's Talk will wrap up the World AIDS Day extended programming on December 3 at 12p. One more programming note … Need to get a heads up on your Top 25 lists? BET will air three countdowns in a row on December 3 starting with Top 25: Money, Power Respect at 2p, followed by Top 25 Most Embarrassing Moments in Black History at 3p, and Top 25 Hottest Black Couples at 4p. ASIAN/INDIAN MARKET: Chrysler is launching a multicultural, multilingual television campaign in three key DMAs, LA, New York, and San Francisco. The campaign will air in Mandarin, Korean, and in English geared towards those of Indian descent on channels such as LA's KSCI, New York's WMBC, and Indian channels SET Asia and Z Cinema. In addition, ads will be placed in Chinese, Korean, and Indian publications. GAY/LESBIAN MARKET: Chris & John are back in their new reality/comedy series, Chris & John to the Rescue!, airing Sunday nights on OUTtv at 8p. In this follow-up to their previous series, Chris & John's Road Trip!, this show chronicles the latest crazy antics of best friends Chris & John as they come to the rescue of people in need of their unique services. The network will air a holiday special on December 17 with Chris & John Rescue Christmas!. In this special episode, currently in production, Chris & John attempt to bring Christmas spirit to the ultimate Scrooge, in hopes of saving his relationship with his holiday-obsessed boyfriend. WGAY-TV will make its debut on New Year's Eve at 12a on January 1, 2007. The new GLBT-focused station, located in Key West, will be an over the air, free gay TV station at http://wgay.tv . The channel is also looking to expand to cable systems across the U.S. next year, with its initial launch exclusively on Key West cable systems. The station will interchange original programming produced in Key West and feature content from Pride Nation's programming library. MTV Networks' Music and Logo Group has some online news ... actually more than 20 of them. They will debut more than 20 internet-based vertical channels in the first two quarters of 2007. The "hyper-programmed online experiences," or vertical channels, that are Web content plays uniquely designed to flourish within today's interactive, on-demand environment. The channels offer users a large range of subjects including: music genres and sub-genres, celebrity fashion and style, personal growth and faith and spirituality, among many others. Audiences will be able to actively hyper-program a number of these vertical channels themselves. A number of verticals under development will serve as companion sites to existing popular television franchises. Here are the projects currently in development (look for the shows the sites are connected to in the parentheses): Web Junk (VH1's Web Junk 20), Music/Classic Rock and Classic Hip Hop, World Series of Pop Culture, Country Music/Americana, Talent Load (VH1's new "60 Second Talent Show), Eye Candy (VH1 Eyecandy), Lists & Lists, Department of Acceptable Media (a collaboration between VH1, Jack Black, and Channel 101's new Department of Acceptable Media), Music/Hip Hop, Personal Development (Made series), Dance (upcoming MTV program, Jennifer Lopez's Dance Life), Faith & Spirituality, My Super Sweet 16 (MTV show of same name), and Yo Momma (show of same name). INTERNATIONAL MARKET: Let's talk British dramas … but this one is actually a new reality rather than a new reality show. BBC's chairman, Michael Grade, will be jumping over to become the Executive Chairman of the public broadcaster's biggest rival, ITV. The official announcement is expected today to the British stock exchange by ITV (the BBC actually leaked out the info yesterday … oops). The private terrestrial network's current chairman, Peter Burt, is likely to leave ITV. Michael is expected to start in 2007 and rumor has it that he has signed on for 3 years. It seems that Michael's decision to leave the BBC caught the network completely off guard. He was hired for the chairman position just two years ago after the top rankers resigned following the Hutton fiasco. Michael was also quite involved in the BBC's complex and unfinished negotiations with the government over license fees. Off the Fence was on the ball with a bunch of new sales in Asia and additional news that it will be attending the Asia Television Forum in Singapore. Off the Fence sold the NHNZ-produced series Man Made Marvels and Raising Baby Panda to Hong Kong-based ATV. Another Hong Kong-based company, TVB, took Fantastic Food Factories and The Most Extreme Series 4 while South Korean KBS acquired Face to Face with the Polar Bear and Sperm Whales. Indonesia's Lativi picked up When Nature Strikes and China's Vision Media bought Hollywood Science for airing on CCTV. As for the Asia Television Forum, Off the Fence has decided to bring in several new titles including Freeze Me from Zig Zag (1x60 documentary), When Nature Strikes (3x60) from Michael Hoff Productions, and The Most Extreme (20x60, fourth season) created by NHNZ and Animal Planet. Asian and Australian deals have been signed by Rive Gauche Television for a few of its favorite reality, medical and documentary programs. Thailand's UBC has acquired a slate of 60-minute programming including 101 More Things Removed From The Human Body (1 ep), Alien Autopsy The True (1), Anatomy of a Giant (1), Super Humans (6), Hurricane Katrina Babies (1), Obese at 16: A Life in Balance (1), Outrageous Home Videos (3), Scars (1), Wild Weddings 1 & 2 (13), and Raw History: Hitler Tapes (1). Telesis in Japan has secured the DVD and TV rights to the Dog Whisperer Season 1 for Broadcast Satellite and Commercial Satellite while ATV took Anatomy of a Giant for broadcast in Hong Kong. Nine Network acquired Anatomy of a Giant for Australia. The 7th Annual Asia Television Forum 2006 (ATF) will open its doors in Singapore for business tomorrow for three days until December 1 and will feature upwards of 336 exhibitors. The annual TV programming market draws TV content sellers from around the world to meet with Asian buyers and potential partners. This year, ATF focuses on new media efforts (e.g. HDTV, IPTV and Mobile TV), though it also continues to feature TV platforms including, cable/satellite/free-to-air broadcasters, distributors and production studios. In attendance this year will be, for the first time, Korea's four main broadcasters: Educational Broadcasting System (EBS), Korea Broadcasting System (KBS), Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), and Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS). ATF is held in conjunction with the 2006 Asia Film Market & Conference, Asia Animation and Asia Media Festival. Here are some pre ATF sales… Icon Animation:
