Edition 11/16/06 Good Morning. It's Thursday, November 16, 2006, and this is your first early morning Multi-Cultural briefing. HISPANIC MARKET: Spanish-language kid channel ¡Sorpresa! has teamed up with Verizon Wireless V Cast to launch of ¡Sorpresa! Movil. Initial content offerings include 1-2 minute clips of six of its TV series on Verizon Wireless V Cast for customers, with plans for a larger roll-out to follow over the next few months. Programs available via the Sorpresa channel include: El Planeta De Remi (Puerto Rico), Kitty's Paradise (Japan), Sabas Que? (US); Kappa Maki (Japan); Tienda Majica (Puerto Rico); and Cachuereos (Chile). And speaking of Verizon and kids … Verizon Wireless and Sesame Workshop will make Plaza Sesamo available on Verizon Wireless' V CAST as well as expand Sesame Street offerings. Verizon Wireless becomes the first wireless carrier in the U.S. to air Plaza Sesamo with classic and new video segments from Sesame Street and Plaza Sesamo on their own dedicated Latino category. Like ¡Sorpresa! Movil, the two Sesame brands are expected to expand to a larger roll-out in the near future. Customers with other V CAST-enabled phones can view Plaza Sesamo through the current Sesame Street channel. Topics for the expanded Sesame Street offerings include Letters and Numbers, Around the House, In the Grocery Store, On the Road, and Ready for School. The Mexican Revolution special will premiere on The History Channel en espanol on November 20 at 8p. It explores the defining event that shaped the destiny of America's southern neighbor, the revolution of 1910 which lasted more than a decade and took the lives of hundreds of thousands. The premiere date of the special marks the anniversary of the start of the Mexican Revolution, November 20, 1910. The Mexican Revolution is produced for The History Channel by Lou Reda Productions in association with Clio Productions, Mexico City. Marlene Braga is the Exec Producer for The History Channel en espanol. Telefe International, the Argentinean network's international version, announced the new season of Chiquitas 2006, beginning this week. The show can be seen weekdays at 6p. The show airs in more than 40 countries around the world. In 2006, this magical story about dreams, illusions and adventures returns to the screen in Argentina and internationally with the main character, Magali Garces, a young, successful businesswoman who become pregnant by her first boyfriend and this unfortunate events that happen with her father removing the baby and telling his daughter the child was born dead. She finds out the truth and begins the search for her son and how her finding her son turns his orphanage into a more joyous, loving place. Telefe International is carried in the U.S. by Condista, a Spanish-language cable TV programming aggregator. VDC.com will be the first U.S.-based broadband cable television provider to distribute Al Jazeera English in the U.S. and will be available as of today to more than 60 million U.S. broadband users. VDC.com (Virtual Digital Cable) is a linear TV subscription service offered over the Internet. BBC Worldwide and Sony Pictures Television have been pulled in to produce a pilot for ABC adapted from BBC's BBC4 show of the same title (which also airs on BBC America). The 30-minute The Thick of It political comedy watches a Parliament member and his inept colleagues (not a far stretch the U.S. version will include Congress members). Mitchell Hurwitz will develop the pilot with The Thick of It creator, Armando Iannucci, exec producing with Mitchell, BBC Worldwide's Paul Telegdy, and Richard Day (who is writing the pilot). VOD service Eurocinema will officially provide on-demand content to Time Warner Cable in the New York area this month. International films can be viewed by Time Warner Cable digital customers through International Movies On Demand (IMOD) Channel 500. Each title may be viewed at any time and is just $3.95 for unlimited access within 24 hours. Key titles from Eurocinema's current roster will be refreshed monthly. John Edward: Cross Country will be making its way across countries following U.K.-based Living TV's licensing of the show from iD Distribution. The network is planning to broadcast the paranormal series some time next year. The show, which was produced by Jeco Productions for U.S.-based WE tv, has also been licensed by Australia's Foxtel for its W Channel. Listeners in Phnom Penh, Cambodia can now hear BBC World Service programs in English in around the clock following BBC 100 FM's re-launch. It has been available in Cambodia since 1997 but recently received a new more centrally located transmitter. The station airs programs on health, sports, business, music, and more including BBC's flagship show, Newshour. EXECUTIVE MOVES: MTV Networks International has promoted two executives:
Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation upped Jamie McCabe to EVP/Worldwide Pay-Per-View, Video-On-Demand and Electronic Sell-Through. In this newly created position, he will manage distribution and marketing for Fox's film and TV content in the VOD and electronic sell-through markets. Jamie was previously SVP in the same department. He will continue to be based in LA and report to Peter Levinsohn, President/Worldwide Pay Television and Digital Media. Mike Perciaccante has left his position of Associate Sales Director at VNU's Interactive Market Systems, Inc.
