HISPANIC MARKET:

mun2 is teaming up with Chosen Few Entertainment/Urban Box Office for Chosen Few: El Documental II "El Tour." The project, debuting today, is the second edition of the Chosen Few: El Documental documentary, which documents the history of Reggaeton.  mun2's multiplatform run will include a One Nation Under Hip Hop programming special on November 22 at 5p with documentary coverage and interviews as well as website and radio promotions and contests giveaways.

WSBS-Mega TV Channel 22 will celebrate Johnny Ventura's 50-year contribution to Latino music and rhythm with a special titled Leyenda y Futuro on November 15 at 9p. It takes a look back on Ventura's extensive musical career and accomplishments.

AFRICAN AMERICAN MARKET:

TV One starts off the holiday season with a four-day Let's Talk Turkey weekend, starting with the premiere of the Preaching to the Choir movie on November 23 from 8-10p. It chronicles the journey of orphaned twin brothers who take very different paths in life, one as a Harlem minister and the other as a hip hop star. Preaching to the Choir is the first film project distributed by Code Black Entertainment in collaboration with Distribution One, a joint venture of Radio One and TV One.  The rest of TV One's Thanksgiving weekend includes comedy marathons of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, Good Times, Martin, In the House, Bill Bellamy's Who's Got Jokes? and much more.  

TV One has racked up an additional one million households through launches this fall on Time Warner cable systems in Milwaukee, Buffalo and LA and Comcast systems in San Francisco and the entire Bay Area, Albuquerque, Los Alamos and Santa Fe.  The network also announced several recent local ad sales launches, including Cox Media in Baton Rouge, Herndon, VA, Pensacola, FL and Ft. Walton Beach, FL; Comcast Spotlight in Nashville, Baltimore, Jacksonville, FL and Savannah, GA; and Charter Communications' St. Louis system. Local ads are now being sold on TV One in 17 markets, on systems serving more than 4.5 million subscribers.

GAY/LESBIAN MARKET:

here! Films will exec produce and oversee worldwide distribution for the upcoming feature Kiss the Bride. The romantic comedy, the first project of new production company Shadow Factory, is currently in production and expected to debut in theaters and on here! Networks in 2007.  Kiss the Bride, from an original screenplay by Ty Lieberman, follows the impending nuptials of happy, heterosexual couple Ryan (James O'Shea) and Alex (Tori Spelling), and how that happiness is disrupted by the arrival of Ryan's old high school friend Matt (Philipp Karner), whom Ryan had a fling with in his teenage years.

INTERNATIONAL MARKET:

CABLEready has completed deals for 66 hours of programming to TV outlets in China, Japan, Korea, Thailand and New Zealand, including the following:
  • Thailand's UBC picked up reality series Multiples, Multiples (4x60) and Risk Takers (10x60) as well as additional episodes of true-crime series Forensic Files (15 hours) and Accident Investigator (five hours).
  • In Korea, Fox Channel bought 20 episodes of the TV Guide Channel-produced Infanity, an inside look at such current TV series as CSI: Miami, Las Vegas, and House.
  • Chinese distributor Leland International acquired Swarms! (2x60), examining the adversarial relationship between humans and swarms of pests from cockroaches and rats to birds and honeybees, and On The Inside (3x60), profiling the real lives of Wall Street traders, cheerleaders, and Air Force test pilots.
  • In Japan, distributor MICO took another 6 hours of the hit celebrity series Inside The Actors Studio for airing on NHK.
  • New Zealand's Documentary Channel picked up the homegrown offbeat travel series, Julian & Camilla's World Odyssey (11x60).

Sir David Frost, a UK-based broadcaster, author and producer, has been chosen to present the new Al Jazeera English-language global news network's flagship current affairs show.  The 60-minute Frost over the World will be broadcast from London in its regular Friday night slot at 6p.  It will feature interviews with current event makers, arts and entertainment news updates, and more.

History International will bring a slew of The Naked Archaeologist shows to its December programming lineup.  Shot on location in Egypt, Israel and Greece, producer/director SimchaJacobovici digs deep into the Middle East and Biblical archaeology to answer questions about the past. The lineup includes the following segments at 8 and 830p respectively:
December 6 - Masada and Who Wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls?
December 13 - Holy Hot Spot and Biblical Epicentre
December 20 - The Mother of Archaeology and Who Wrote the Bible?
December 27 - Where is Mount Sinai? and The Real Mount Sinai
The channel will also air The Worst Jobs in History Christmas Special on December 25 at 11p.

Alfred Haber Distribution, Inc. has been selected as the exclusive international distributor for the 120-minute Madonna: The Confessions Tour Live From London, which will premiere on the NBC on November 22.  The special was taped this summer at Wembley Arena in London, UK during Madonna's worldwide 25-city Confessions Tour and will be the first-ever broadcast network program by Madonna. The special is produced by Blackdog Films.

EXECUTIVE MOVES:

British Sky Broadcasting has made a number of senior management appointments.
  • Mike Darcey to become Sky's new COO, he had been Sky's Group Commercial and Strategy Director.  Prior to joining Sky in 1998, Darcey was an economic advisor for a number of industries primarily focusing on entertainment and telecommunications.
  • Brian Sullivan has been appointed Managing Director/Customer Group, responsible for heading marketing, product development and customer services teams.  Sullivan, who had been Sky's Director/Product Strategy and Management, was key in Sky's multi-product strategy including the launch of Sky+, multiroom, Sky HD and Sky Broadband.  He takes over the role from Jon Florsheim, CMO and Managing Director/Customer Group, who exits Sky after 12-ys to become CEO, Homeserve GB and an Executive Director of Homeserve plc.
  • Matthew Anderson has become Group Director/Communications and Brand Marketing, and will oversee brand marketing in addition to heading Sky's publicity, corporate communications, public affairs, internal communications and corporate responsibility activities.
  • Didier Lebrat joins Sky as its first CTO, officially coming on board next month.  He will be responsible for the company's Information Technology, Customer Technology, Network Infrastructure and Broadcast Platform teams.  Most recently Lebrat served as CTO, Vodafone Italy.
