INTERNATIONAL MARKET: C4i sold over 35 hours of comedy, drama and documentary programming post-MIPCOM to Scandinavian broadcasters. TV4 Sweden took The Inbetweeners (6x30-minutes, Bwark Productions), Peep Show (6x30-minutes, Objective Productions), the latest 16x60-minute series of Shameless from Company Pictures, 9/11 Faker (1x50-minutes, Films of Record), Ninety Naps a Day (1x60-minutes, Firefly) and The Worlds ... and me (4x60-minutes, Firefly). Viasat TV8 in Sweden signed up for White Teeth (4x50-minutes, Company Pictures) and Millionaire's Mission (4x50-minutes, Silver River Productions). Lastly, YLE Finland acquired season 2 of The Choir (5x60-minutes, Twenty Twenty Television) and Ochberg's Orphans (1x42-minutes, Rainmaker Films). ITV is into a little bit of mystery of late with its latest pickup from Chorion being an output agreement for 8 new Agatha Christie movies. Airing is expected to happen in 2009-10. More than 500 hours of drama are under Target Entertainment Group's MIPCOM 2008 belt with the latest deals including the following:
ESPN360.com ( www.ESPN360.com ) inked a new deal with IMG Sports Media for the U.S. broadband rights to Australia's Hyundai A-League with the site bringing live coverage of up to 84 regular season matches (4 matches per week) and 6 playoff matches, including the Grand Final. Certain games will also be shown on ESPN Mobile TV. The league is run by Football Federation Australia. In other ESPN360.com ( www.ESPN360.com ) news, under a new ESPN and Setanta Sports broadband deal, the site will have live coverage of England's Football League and Carling Cup tournaments. The competitions included under the deal are The Coca-Cola Championships, League One, League Two, the Carling Cup and several others. Close to 100 English soccer matches are part of the live coverage (also with replay availability). Sky1 has secured the exclusive U.K. broadcast rights to the 90-minute Britney: For the Record documentary from FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME). Produced by Radical Media for MTV America, the British showing will air less than 24 hours after the U.S. broadcast. Web series The Box is making its way from broadband to broadcast this Halloween with OUTtv Canada airing special episodes. The series is several minutes long and will begin airing now through Halloween between regularly scheduled programming. In Canada, Halifax-based EastLink is launching High Fidelity HDTV's high-def channel suite, including Oasis HD, Equator HD and Rush HD. HISPANIC MARKET: Telemundo's November 4 coverage of the 2008 presidential elections will take place both on- and off-screen ( www.telemundo.com ) with continuous coverage beginning in the early morning with Levantate (7a), followed by Al Rojo Vivo con Maria Celeste (5p) and Noticiero Telemundo (630p), in addition to hourly updates beginning at 10a. At 7p, the network will air Decision 2008, a news special hosted by Pedro Sevcec and Maria Celeste Arraras. The coverage will include the latest news from several U.S. locations, with real-time results and analysis from political experts. Telemundo also declared its NTI results for October. According to Nielsen Media Research, the network averaged 626,000 A18-49 in the weekday slot, showing a 10% increase compared to October 2007 (568,000). It also showed a 7% jump for Monday-Sunday primetime with this October's average of 577,000 A18-49. EXECUTIVE MOVES: RDF Television named Will Smith (no, not that one) as Director/Programs from his previous position as Controller, ITV Productions, Factual London. The new RDF exec will be in charge of all of RDF Televisions programming genres of Entertainment, Factual Entertainment, Comedy, Documentaries, and Daytime & Features. He starts in 1Q2009, reporting into RDF Television's MD Grant Mansfield.
