It's Tuesday, September 30, 2008, and this is your first early morning International & Multicultural briefing. INTERNATIONAL MARKET: Entertainment One, a Canadian producer and distributor, is buying DHX Media in yet another acquisition for the company after recently acquiring Barna-Alper Productions, Blueprint Entertainment and several others. The $65+ million deal for the Halifax TV producer will bring the company a 2,200x30-minute programming library. DHX owns Decode Entertainment, Halifax Film and Studio B Productions. Darren Throop will continue on as Entertainment One's CEO while Patrice Theroux will head up filmed entertainment. The History HD channel is continuing its Asian rollout with an October 1 launch in Japan. Languaged in Japanese, the channel will be managed, programmed and operated by The History Channel Japan Corporation, an A&E Television Networks and Super-Network, Inc. joint venture. As part of ESPN's multiplatform MLB post-season coverage, ESPN International has the rights to show the World Series, American League Championship Series and certain Division Series games across networks in Latin America (South America, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean), the Middle East, Israel, Africa and New Zealand in addition to all post-season games in Brazil and rights to the NLCS in sub-Saharan Africa. ESPN's NASN will air the post-season in Europe and the Middle East. ESPN International also has rights to air the games on ESPN360 in Mexico,Brazil, Europe and the Middle East. U.K.-based Electric Sky picked up the rights to distribute three new titles from producer True North, a fellow country company. They are BBC animal rescue series Animal 24:7 (seasons 4 and 5, 20x45-minutes each) and ITV's 47-minute, high-def specials, Angel of Death and Killer on the Run. Continuing its long-term agreements, Alfred Haber Distribution, Inc. has signed a new distribution deal with dick clark productions as the exclusive global distributor for the 2009 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards and the 2008 American Music Awards. The company has repped the former for the past 13 years and the latter for 17 years. International Film Group has been brought in by Australia's Nine Network to rep its current and archived catalog of locally-produced 60 Minutes segments in Asia. A second season of The Mr. Men Show (52x11-minutes) has been ordered up by the U.S.' Cartoon Network and the U.K.'s Five from Chorion for a 2009 debut. The animated sketch show's first run has also picked up new deals with Canada's YTV, Singapore's MEDIACORP and South Africa's KTV. London's ITV Global Entertainment Ltd.sold its The Pinky & Perky Show (52x13-minutes) to Finland's YLE, Poland's TVP, South Africa's KTV-MNET and Sweden's SVT. Other deals for the CGI animated comedy series for the K6-11 crowd are in the advanced stages for Australia, Greece, Cyprus and Thailand. The Pinky & Perky Show, a Pinky and Perky Enterprises, Method Films and DQ Entertainment Limited co-production for CBBC and France 3, is due to debut on the U.K.'s CBBC later in 2008. In Living Color alum David Alan Grier is traveling up to Ontario through his Chocolate News current affairs magazine show parody. The 10x30-minute show with a decidedly African American perspective will debut on Canada's The Comedy Network on October 16 at 1030p with episodes available the following day on thecomedynetwork .ca . Galleon Holdings plc in the U.K. is working with Malaysian producers Nafalia Corporation Sdn Bhd to create a Malaysian version of Galleon's reality talent show Super Soccer Star under a co-production deal between the two. Radio Television Malaysia will bring 13 episodes of the show to its primetime lineup in January 2009. FASTWEB, an Italian telecom provider, and Disney-ABC-ESPN Television will offer ABC Studios-produced TV series to FASTWEBTV's subscribers on an on-demand basis. HISPANIC MARKET: Grupo Televisa, S.A.B. in Mexico and the U.S.' Telemundo Communications Group Inc. signed on a deal that would enable Telemundo to air all of the soccer matches played at the home stadiums of six of Mexico's top teams. The rights agreement also include matches that would involve these teams from the playoffs, semifinals and finals of the Mexican National Championship. EXECUTIVE MOVES: Sesame Workshop named Andrew Ames as VP/Global Production to oversee the company's global co-productions and special projects production. His responsibilities will include production/creative oversight, budgeting and financing, international content management and cross-platform content initiatives. The former Series Producer will report to Miranda Barry, EVP/Creative.
