Good morning. It's Thursday, September 11, 2008, and this is your first early morning International & Multicultural briefing.

INTERNATIONAL MARKET:

RTL Group's FremantleMedia acquired a 19.99% equity stake in Australia's Beyond International TV producer/content distributor.  The latter is presently launching an LA-based office in addition to its existing American offices San Francisco and Bethesda, MD.  The Sydney-based Beyond is the producer behind shows such as What's Good For You, Beyond Tomorrow, Mythbusters and other TV content as well as feature films including Strictly Ballroom and A Good Woman.

Indie licensing/brand developer Rocket Licensing inked a U.K. and Republic of Ireland repping agreement with HBO (Home Box Office, Inc.) for both classic (excluding Sex and the City) and new TV series.  On the latest to make its U.K. debut from HBO is Flight of the Conchords.  As part of Rocket's HBO deal for the show, the company has initially inked licensing deals with Bravado International Ltd, GB Eye and Danilo as well as for Sopranos.

Among several of its newest global agreements, The Television Syndication Company inked one with Discovery HD for the rights to The Lost City in the Sky, Monster Moves, Ganges River, Between Earth and Sky and Alaska Experiment.  Latin America's Casa Club took Daily Shortcuts and For Your Home and Paint, Paper and Crafts while The Donna Dewberry Show, Blue Dolphin Kids, Ultimate Choice and Real Life, Real Girls went to the U.K.'s Open Heavens Media and Nigeria's Entertainment Hwy.  Other deals were signed with Russia's Jivi Media for Kid Fitness, Astro Xpresi in Indonesia for Ultimate Choice and Real Life, Real Girls and Hong Kong's TVB for Aqua Kids.  Flying the friendly skies will be The Color of Change on Emirates Air and Intrepid Journeys on Malaysia Airlines.  Short-form content will head over to Finland's Channel 4 with Car Coach and Daily Shortcuts segments.  Last, but certainly not least, Christmas at Maxwell's' DVD rights are with Lighthouse in the U.K. and The World Fishing Network lured in Fishing Western Australia for North America.

In another new repping deal, Toronto's Tricon Films & Television has forged ahead with signing on as the international TV distributor with Canadian factual producers Lone Eagle Entertainment, Peace Point Entertainment Group and Chandran Media.  The deal covers the following programming from each of the companies:
  • Lone Eagle Entertainment - The Call (13x30-minutes), Hooked Up (6x60-minutes) and formats and finished shows for Inside the Box (130x30-minutes) and You Bet Your Ass (76x30-minutes)
  • Chandran Media - Inside Fashion (13x30-minutes), Nitelife TV (13x30-minutes) and Hospitality Guide (13x30-minutes)
  • Peace Point Entertainment - Reality Obsessed (13x30-minutes), Fresh with Anna Olsen (52x30-minutes) and Real Fight Club (1x60-minutes) and Decaids (1x60-minutes)

Leopard Films, a U.K. and U.S.-based indie production house, is seeing a greenlight on its first series commission from Five in the U.K.  Lights, Camera, Animals is a 10x30-minute observational series destined to air later this fall.

Guru Studio (
www.gurustudio.com ) signed a development agreement with a Canadian broadcaster for its new animated preschool Justin Time (52x11-minutes) series.  The format heads over to Mipcom next month with another Guru offering, The Buds.

The U.K.'s Outright Distribution landed distribution rights to Car Bomb, a 2-part documentary created by indie producer Many Rivers Films.  This is the first distribution agreement between the two companies, giving Outright the international rights to the special, which was originally produced for Channel 4.

SevenOne International sold the Beat Your Host! format rights for France to TF1.  The broadcaster is looking to launch its localized version in 2008 under the title Qui peut battre Benjamin Castaldi?.

Univision's Sabado Gigante (Giant Saturday) re-launch this past weekend proved productive with the Saturday 8-11p show reaching 7.2 million Total Viewers on September 6 for an average of 3.2 million Total Viewers 2+ and 1.5 million A18-49, according to Nielsen's NTI ratings.

EXECUTIVE MOVES:

Telemundo Communications Group upped Johanna Guerra from VP to SVP/Network News, reporting to Don Browne, Telemundo's President.  In her new position, she will be responsible for strategy development for the network's news assets, supervise Telemundo's news programming and manage its domestic and international news bureaus in LA, New York, Washington D.C. and Mexico City.  In addition, Johanna will develop on-air talent and communications.

Outline Productions in the U.K. named Bridget Boseley as Head/Features and Popular Factual.  This month, she will also join the company's board.  She recently exec produced BBC2's Mary Queen of Shops at Optomen television in addition to other prior positions as Head of the BBC's Features and Formats, Controller of Factual Programs at ITV and more.

ITV Worldwide brought in Jason Binks as its new Head/Digital and New Media.  The ex-Roo Media sales director will be in charge of the company's digitized archive content distribution internationally.
