INTERNATIONAL MARKET: MGM Networks inked a whole host of new deals with Eastern European cable and satellite operators. The MGM Channel in Serbia launched on various platforms, including the Kopernikus Technology and K.D.S. Novi Sud cable operators and the Telekom Serbia IPTV platform. In Serbia, the network will also be broadcast with Serbian subtitles (Cyrillic alphabet). In August, Albania's Digitalb multichannel platform debuted The MGM Channel on its Digitalb DTH service as did operator Cabletel in Macedonia. Nordisk Film TV World picked up the exclusive rights to distribute all existing and future formats of Denmark's TV2 and TV2 networks. These come on the heels of the company's recent repping agreement with Sweden's SVT. As for upcoming business connected to TV2's formats, Nordisk will bring them over to MIPCOM next month. ESPN STAR Sports (ESS) acquired the broadcast rights for Formula One in Asia for the next 5 years. The deal brings in action in India and South Korea to the race calendar in 2010. ESS picks up the exclusive rights to broadcast the FIA Formula One World Championship across multiple platforms (TV, internet, mobile and radio) in 24 Asian markets, including India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea. This will also be the first time that Formula One rights were signed on a platform neutral basis, and, following on the new move, ESS will have terrestrial rights in several markets. BBC America is importing 5 new documentaries to the U.S., turning October into Doc-tober for the network on Wednesdays at 9p. The month starts out on October 1 at 9p with My Fake Baby, followed by S#x Change Soldier, Sugar Mummies, Brothers and Sisters in Love and Britain's Youngest Grannies. HIT Entertainment and Senal Colombia signed a deal for 60 new episodes of Barney & Friends. This brings Senal's total license to over 100 episodes as well as 39 episodes of Thomas & Friends. The free Colombian national TV channel will air 30-minute episodes of Barney & Friends twice every weekday. HISPANIC MARKET: Nielsen's Top 10 Broadcast Spanish Language and English Language Primetime Program Live +SD ratings for the week of August 25-31, 2008 will be updated as soon as they are posted. AFRICAN AMERICAN MARKET: TV One's combined Democratic convention coverage August 25-28 reached a total of 2.65 million viewers, including 2.2 million African American viewers age 2+. DNC Live, TV One's primetime coverage over the 4 nights, averaged a 2.6 HH rating among African American viewers while Thursday night's coverage posted a 3.2 African American HH rating. TV One Online also set a record during the month of August with over 3 million page views. Nielsen's African American television household Live +SD rankings for the week of August 25-31, 2008 will be updated as soon as they are posted.
