Good morning. It's Thursday, August 87, 2008, and this is your first early morning International & Multicultural briefing.

INTERNATIONAL MARKET:

Discovery U.S.' 3-year old U.K. office is closing its doors for efficiency's sake to focus commissioning efforts in its U.S. headquarters.  The changes will not have an effect on other Discovery offices such as Discovery UK, Europe, Middle East and North Africa based in London.  The three staffers in the Discovery U.S. will be affected, although it is unclear as of whether they will fill other positions.  The employees include SVP/Production and Development Peter Lovering and Director/Production and Development Alan Eyres.

The U.K.'s Outright Distribution inked a new volume deal with Italy's Fox International Channels for a collection of films from producers repped by the distributor as well as from within the Shed Media Group.  Here's the scoop on what is included in the agreement, from which producer it came and for which channel it is destined ...

NBC Universal will be an integral part of CanWest Broadcasting's fall schedule following a broadband content deal between the two for both returning and new shows.  Heroes, The Office, Knight Rider, Days of Our Lives, 90210 and Deal or No Deal are some of the series that will air on CanWest's Global Television and E! websites.  Blogs, games, extra footage and webisodes are also part of the agreement.  As for the Toronto-based broadcaster's fall TV lineup, it picked up Kath & Kim, My Own Worst Enemy, The Last Templar, Howie Do It and XIII from NBC Universal.

CROSS-MARKET:

Gospel Music Channel will celebrate the first-ever National Gospel Music Heritage Month ( www.gospelmusicheritage.com) on-air, online and on-demand in September with global and network premieres, documentaries, original specials and series, short-form and interstitial pieces, music videos and more.  On-air highlights include Mahalia Sings! with performances by Mahalia Jackson every Sunday night at 7p and the world TV debut of the 2008 BMI Trailblazer Awards.

AFRICAN AMERICAN MARKET:

Our World, hosted by Ed Gordon, is offering a special feed on August 29 from the Democratic Convention broadcast in Denver to its affiliates. Our World has been renewed for this fall with weekend issue-oriented news series recently picking up new clearances in Tampa, Huntsville, Flint and Indianapolis as well as upgrades on CBS in LA and Philadelphia.
