Cynopsis: International 08/25/08 Good morning. It's Monday, August 25, 2008, and this is your first early morning International & Multicultural briefing. INTERNATIONAL MARKET: Digital Rights Group's C4i and Hardcash Productions inked a 1-year development deal under which the two will collaborate on developing content for the international market from a specifically allocated fund. C4i will then be in charge of the content's distribution. They have previously worked together on several recent projects such as Iraq: The Lost Generation, Child Trafficking, Beneath The Veil and Burma: Inside The Worst Place In The World. The 5-year old Indie Reef Television signed up for a first-look agreement with the new Passion Distribution Ltd. The company produces shows such as Sun Sea & Bargain Spotting and will soon announce new commissions for the U.K.'s Five for a MIPCOM launch. Over in Copenhagen, Nordisk Film sold its Sensing Murder supernatural reality series to The Netherlands' RTL and Norway's TVN. Australia's Nine Network acquired another season with its second run buy. Produced by New Zealand's Ninox Television, the third season just debuted in the country. The format was also picked up in Russia, bringing its format total to 11 countries. U.K.er Virgin Media Television's Bravo men's entertainment channel is co-producing Chris Ryan's Elite Force (wt) together with Discovery EMEA. The October Films-produced factual documentary series will make its way to Bravo's fall lineup as an 8x60-minute show gaining access to the hardest and most sophisticated special police. The SCI FI acquired the exclusive U.K. pay-TV rights for Eli Stone's seasons 1-2 from NBC Universal Global Network and Disney-ABC-ESPN Television. The deal also covers the first run rights for all U.K. pay and free-to-air TV channels. Pioneer Productions has been commissioned by Channel 4, National Geographic Channel US and Discovery Canada to produce a 90-minute story about Titanic from a new analytical perspective using drama, documentary and CGI. ITV Worldwide signed a multi-year development and distribution agreement with Toronto's indie producer Proper Television. The former will gain the exclusive international distribution rights (excluding Canada) to all Proper TV content, formats and series. Passion Distribution is continuing to rep Tori and Dean's show with season 3 as the latest run to be added to the company's distribution duties. Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood(10x60-minutes) joins season 1 (8x30-minutes) and 2 (10x30-minutes) of Tori & Dean: Inn Love, all produced by World of Wonder for the U.S.' Oxygen. Munich-based ProSieben sold its Beat our Host! event game show to Sweden's Kanal 5. The Swedish version of the format will make its debut on September 9 as Vem kan sla Filip och Fredrik as a 60-minute primetime program every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for three consecutive weeks. The brings the format's sales to a total of 12 countries so far. The new multi-platform digital rights agreement between Major League Baseball Advanced Media and ESPN also covers international rights (excluding several Asian and Pacific Rim markets) for ESPN.com's global sites and more. The U.S. part of the deal running through 2013 extends across ESPN.com, ESPN360.com, ESPN Mobile TV, ESPN Mobile Publishing, ESPN MVP, content on emerging platforms and syndication of ESPN-licensed content. Last Thursday evening, The Cynopsis Foundation Inc. held its second annual Charity Dinner and Auction fundraiser at New York City's Chelsea Pier 60. The evening demonstrated the importance of encouraging and enabling all children to dare to dream to become whatever they want to be and thanks to its Presenting Sponsor qubo, and Participating Sponsors A&E Television Network and Retirement Living TV, and guests from more than 40 industry organizations, the Foundation was able to raise more than $85,000, to be donated to this year's recipient charities - Kids In Need and EarthEcho International. HISPANIC MARKET: Telemundo's airing of the Rumbo Al Mundial: Mexico vs. Honduras soccer match on August 20 brought in a record 2,037,000 A18-49 as the highest rated telecast ever in NTI for the network, according to Nielsen's NTI ratings. Seven games into the league, it has already reached 6.2 million A18-49and 10.2 million Persons 2+ (Progressive Cume data - 6 min. qualifier, 75% unification). With the upcoming Hispanic Heritage Month 2008 (September 15-October 15) arriving soon, PBS will take a closer look at the history and culture of Hispanic and Latino Americans. New programming set to hit the air include the 90-minute Los Lonely Boys Cottonfields and Crossroads on September 17 at 930p, Latinos '08 (October 8, 9-10p) and P.O.V. Calavera Highway (September 18, 10-11p). The MEXICANAL Network inked a multi-casting deal with Columbus Hispanic Media, LLC. In conjunction with the U.S.' February 2009 digital transition date, the WCPX (Channel 48) in Columbus, OH will air MEXICANAL's Spanish-language news and entertainment content on one of its digital channels. Spanish Broadcasting System, Inc.'s Mega TV is launching today on WSJU (Channel 30), the network's newest affiliate in Puerto Rico. The launch is part of a retransmission deal between SBS and AERCO, WSJU's station owner. The channel serves the San Juan metro area with carriage available on all island satellite and cable systems including Liberty Cablevision, Choice Cable TV, One Link Communications and Dish Network. AFRICAN AMERICAN MARKET: The Democratic convention begins today in Denver. BET Networks will have live, nightly coverage from August 25-28, along with four, 30-minute BET News specials about key issues surrounding each evening's coverage. On August 25, BET and BET J will air Michelle Obama's speech live at 10p. What's at Stake: The Top 10 Issues Affecting Black America and Senator Hillary Clinton's speech live will air at 9p and 10p, respectively, on August 26 while the 27 will have the VP candidate's speech at 10p. The Dream: 45 Years Later is the first show on August 28 at 830p, followed by Obama's Journey to the White House at 9p, The Truth with Jeff Johnson at 930p and the DNC Nomination Speech at 10p (also on BET J). More programming connected to the Convention will air on August 29 while BET.com will offer coverage, photos and more. GAY/LESBIAN MARKET: Logo launched 365gay News late last week as the network's multi-platform, on-air, online news hub. It will cover news, opinion and community topics such as the upcoming election, the fight for marriage rights and much more with Southwest Airlines sponsoring the whole endeavor. The CBS News-produced 365gay News will air every Thursday at 7p as a 60-minute magazine-style LGBT news show with Ross Palombo hosting the streaming and on-air news show.
