It's Tuesday, August 19, 2008, and this is your first early morning International & Multicultural briefing. INTERNATIONAL MARKET: The U.K.'s BSkyB is launching another arts network on October 20 by splitting its Sky Arts into two, Sky Arts 1 and Sky Arts 2. The former will be all about current and cult (such as live rock concerts) while Sky Arts 2 will take on the classics such as fine art, opera, classical music and dance. A third one will join the mix with Sky Arts High Definition airing high-def programming from both channels. They will broadcast a total of 36 hours of programming daily. London's Galleon Entertainment inked a deal with Xilam to rep all licensing rights to A Kind of Magic, Oggy and Rahan. The K6-12-targeted digital 2D animated fantasy comedy (26x30-minutes) is already licensed to broadcasters such as Disney Channel (France, Germany, Italy, Asia and Latin America), France 3 (France), Mediaset (Italy), ABC (Australia), VRT (Belgium) and TSR (Switzerland), among others. Oggy's (200x7-minutes or 65x30-minutes) new season will debut in September in France on Canal + with several licensing deals already in place. Rahan, an animated comedy action adventure series (26x26-minutes) for K7-13 has already been sold to France 3 (France), Canal Plus (France), RAI (Italy), ZDF (Germany), Selectavision (Spain) and others. A cool 90 million euros is the price tag that France's TF1 commercial broadcaster is looking for its stake in France 24. The channel is a TF1 and France Televisions joint venture that the former has decided competes too much with its LCI news network. The French government has already made its opinion known; stating that it believes the demand is excessive. In one week's time, CNBC will begin airing the U.K. version of The Apprentice, The Apprentice UK with Sir Alan Sugar. Running at 9p August 25 through November 10, the show was produced by Talkback Thames in association with Mark Burnett Productions for the BBC. HISPANIC MARKET: Season 2 of Karlifornia will come to MTV Tr3s starting today at 4pm and 9pm. The show's www.karlifornia.mtvtr3s.com site will offer up full episodes, browse behind-the-scenes pics and making-of-the-show snippets on Karli's "My Barrio" blog. MTV Tr3s Mobile will also have full episodes on all wireless carrier distribution partners, including mobile VOD and mobile TV partners while episodes will be syndicated to all online syndication partners. As part of NBC's Olympic coverage, Telemundo fared well. Through August 17, Olympic coverage to-date on the network reached 12 million unique viewers, up 12% from the Athens Games.
