Pitch Smarter. Cynopsis: International 08/08/08 Good morning. It's Friday, August 8, 2008, and this is your first early morning International & Multicultural briefing. INTERNATIONAL MARKET: As part of its new 10-year agreement with MNC Sky Vision, Dori Media Group's Ginx TV video gaming network will be localized for the Indonesia. The channel will first appear on MNC's OKE Vision platform next month followed in May 2009 with a launch on Indovision. First look dibs are part of a new agreement between the U.K.'s Gecko Productions and ALL3MEDIA International. To start off the first look terms, ALL3MEDIA will work with the indie TV production house on its current slate of documentaries for a MIPCOM launch.The shows include Satan's S#x Slaves (wt) and the BBC One documentary Ex Forces and Homeless. Things will get a bit easier in Europe with the EU administration's launch of a new and simpler authorization process last week for satellite operators. Whereas before operators needed to receive authorization from each of the 27 EU states in order to air their services throughout Europe, the new process enables the companies to obtain only one permission to bring in mobile TV and high-speed data as well as other services such as remote medical and disaster relief. The program is expecting to start its first pan-European process in the first half of next year. The 13x60-minute fantasy drama Merlin, a Shine production for the BBC, is destined for Australia's Network Ten following a sales agreement with FremantleMedia Enterprises. The show is all set to premiere in the U.K. in September on BBC One. Sky One inked a deal with Warner Bros. International Television Distribution for the linear U.K. TV rights to the new drama series Fringe for a fall debut. More than 200 hours of programming has been sold internationally by Off the Fence. In Europe, 70 hours went to Greece's ERT 3 and SKAI, 28 hours to SVT Sweden and 15 hours to Spain's Odisea while Germany's N24 and Kabel 1 and YLE Finland took programming as well. Disney-ABC-ESPN Television and Universal Studios International are the latest to sign with Poland's Multimedia Polska to bring their respective content to the company's VOD services. The U.S. companies' films will only be available on Multimedia Polska's service 45 days after the DVD release. Target Entertainment sold its Glamour's 50 Best Dressed 2008 to the U.S.' The Style Network for an August 9 debut as part of a block of 5x30-minute back-to-back specials. The show was originally produced by the U.K. company's in-house production unit Target TV for Fiver in the U.K. HISPANIC MARKET: Alterna'TV inked a 2-channel distribution agreement with Time Warner Cable's New York region. Ecuavisa Internacional and Telemicro International launched as part of that region's DTV en Espanol service. EXECUTIVE MOVES: Shine Television named Tiger Aspect's Commercial Director and SVP/International Production Jamie Munro as its Joint MD to work with Karen Smith, who was upped from Director/Programs. As of October 6, they will be responsible for creative and commercial, reporting to Shine Group's Elisabeth Murdoch, Chairman/CEO, and Alex Mahon, President, respectively. Director/Production Joe McLusky and John Gilbert, Shine TV's Director/Legal and Business Affairs, who previously reported to Mahon, will report to Jamie. Hiromu Iwamoto is STAR's new VP/Ad Sales, Japan, reporting to Jonathan Ellis, SVP/Ad Sales. He will manage the company's regional office in Tokyo.
