INTERNATIONAL MARKET: BBC Worldwide is acquiring Australia's subscription TV channel, UK.TV with the official takeover happening on July 1. As one of three stakeholders in the company (formerly with a 20% share), BBC Worldwide's Channels business has bought the remaining shares from joint partners FOXTEL and FremantleMedia to become UK.TV's 100% owner. BBC Worldwide and FOXTEL also teamed up to launch 3 new channels in Australia from the new BBC-branded international portfolio. BBC HD launched earlier in June as the first on the new FOXTEL HD+ service. BBC Knowledge and CBeebies will be the first BBC channels to launch on FOXTEL in the middle of 2009. BBC World News, already available on FOXTEL, is the last of the BBC Worldwide's 5-channel availability. A new partnership between HBO and Jasmine Group in Israel will bring about a new SVOD service launch on Cyprus's PrimeTV. The two former companies have already worked together on an SVOD initiative on Israel's HOT platform. Operated by PrimeTel, HBO SVOD will be comparable to other related international SVOD services with HBO series, documentaries and features. It will be dubbed to the local language, Malay, for a July debut. Amberwood Entertainment sold the TV and DVD rights to The Secret World of Benjamin Bear (39x30-minutes) to Russian Film Company for Russia and the CIS. LATAM MARKET: The place has been determined. MTV Latin America's Los Premios MTV Latin America 2008 will take place in Guadalajara, Jalisco in Mexico on October 16. It will air live on MTV Latin America and the U.S.' MTV Tr3s. EXECUTIVE MOVES: The three newest members of HBO Central Europe's team include Stefan Dakovski, who has been upped to Head/HBO Adria. The Sofia-based Stefan will move from his previous position as HBO Bulgaria's Affiliate Relations and Marketing Director to manage HBO Adria in Bulgaria, Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia and Montenegro.
