INTERNATIONAL MARKET: Stockholm's Metronome Film & Television is launching an LA-based subsidiary in September with the first order of business to sell its existing formats. Original format development will be the next move. Metronome has named Michael Porseryd as the new unit's MD in addition to bringing in Jock Millgardh and Mattias Olsson from Friday TV to the LA office. (Friday TV previously sold two formats in the U.S.: Clash of the Choirs to NBC and Single Moms to TLC.) 20th Century Fox Television and the U.K.'s ITV have signed a rather large, non-exclusive 1-year deal in which the U.S. company and ITV Global Content will co-finance a joint development fund in order to create new programming. As part of their agreement, the two will gain access to the other company's formats and production facilities. ABC's Dharma & Greg and Fox's Southern Comfort will be the first projects out of the co-development gate to be remade into U.K. versions. The new division will be managed by 20th Century's VP/current programming Ann Johnson and Steve Sicherman and ITV Productions' Kate Bartlett and Saurabh Kakkar. ALL3MEDIA International inked a slew of Central and Eastern European sales at DISCOP. Ecosse Films' He Kills Coppers and Cape Wrath went to HRT Croatia and Bulgaria's Proxima, respectively. The former also acquired Midsomer Murders from Bentley Productions and Company Pictures' The Palace and Wild at Heart (season 3) while Proxima took Bonkers, produced by All3MEDIA's Lime Pictures. Midsomer Murders new and previous season deals with LNK Lithuania, Slovenia's POP TV and with Poland's Studio Printel for DVD. In Estonia, Neljas bought rights for Outrageous Fortune from South Pacific Pictures and Skins and The Palace. Poland's Fox picked up Company Pictures' Talk to Me, which was also acquired by RTV Slovenia, along with TXTV's Torn and World Productions' Lilies. POP TV also acquired Wild at Heart. AETN International also announced several deals as DISCOP kicks off this week. Czech TV took a factual programming package which includes Dogfights (29x60-minutes), Battle 360 (10x60-minutes) and Life After People (1x120-minutes). Poland's TVP acquired Biography: Barack Obama (1x60-minutes), Child Warriors (1x60-minutes) and Crude (1x120-minutes) while Russia's Channel One has Life After People and Kultura took, Rome: Rise and Fall of an Empire (13x60-minutes). In the Ukraine, Shockwave (13x60-minutes) and Dogfights is traveling to Direct Sight/K1 Channel and Human Weapon (16x60-minutes) and Criss Angel Mindfreak (82x30-minutes) go to STB. Munich's Studio100 Media (formerly EM.Entertainment) signed an agreement with the Al Jazeera Children's Channel for the distribution of Bumba the Clown in Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros Islands, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. The exclusive, 5-year TV deal covering free and pay TV for the preschool animation/live action series will be for cable, satellite and terrestrial in Arabic-speaking territories. Yesterday was the day that a 1-day strike took place in Paris on French state-run TV and radio networks, crippling most programming on the media outlets. Many shows were either heavily cut down or canceled altogether when France Televisions, Radio France, Radio France Internationale, the National Audiovisual Institute and TV5 Monde's French employees decided to strike for the second time in two months. The staffers, repped by 10 unions, are looking to combat the French parliamentary committee's mission to uncover new funding alternatives for French public TV and radio broadcasting. Public broadcasters must deal with advertising restrictions starting in September 2009 and an eventual elimination of advertising by January 2012. HISPANIC MARKET: Agenda Latina 2008, an issues forum sponsored by Grupo Salinas, Fundacion Azteca America and Azteca America Colorado, will air nationally on June 20 at 8p on Azteca America. It will also be available as a simultaneous webcast at www.fundacionaztecaamerica.org . The program includes Latino community positions from leaders of within the Hispanic Leadership Institute, Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, Southwest Voter Registration Education Project, National Association of Elected and Appointed Officials, National Council of La Raza, NDN, Republican National Hispanic Assembly and Voto Latino.
