INTERNATIONAL MARKET: Globo TV International renewed its volume deal with Mozambique's STVSoico Televisao. As part of this agreement, the communication group will bring over 700 hours of TV Globo telenovelas, dramas, documentaries and comedies to Africans from 2009 until 2011. In London, Passion Distribution signed on with World of Wonder to exclusively rep its formats and programming. Some of the shows include David Ogilvy: The First Mad Man and Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood, according to World Screen. Although Village on a Diet may have enabled the villagers to lose weight, ALL MEDIA International has expanded the series' sales waistband. The factual entertainment format has been sold by the U.K.-based distributor to indie Swiss producer allcomm productions for Switzerland's SF Channel 1. Options were also sold for the U.S. with Lion Television, Spain with Europrodocciones, Belgium with Endemol, Norway with NRK and Sweden with Eyeworks. Denmark's DR commissioned a first series of 8 episodes. The comic Gon from publisher Kodansha in Japan will make its way to television screens as an animated series through Korea's Daewon Media. The comic book first came out 16 years ago with a dinosaur with extraordinary power as the central character. The TV series will launch in the beginning of 2010. UTV Software Communications' Indian channels will carry NDTV Imagine's Ramayan as part of a syndication agreement between the company's Sun TV network of channels and the new Hindi entertainment channel. A dubbed version of the flagship mythological show will air on Gemini TV (Telugu), Sun TV (Tamil) and Surya TV (Malayalam). The company's Kannada channel, Udaya TV, cannot broadcast the show according to laws in the Karnataka state regarding dubbing. Viewers in Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean will soon gain access to the new CONCACAF Champions League courtesy of the new agreement between ESPN and CONCACAF (Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football). It covers TV, radio, online and broadband rights to the league for the next 4 seasons starting in 2008/2009. In Mexico, ESPN gains the exclusive rights for all 4 platforms. Each season, the network will air a minimum of 64 CONCACAF Champions League matches, beginning with preliminary stage matches taking place August 26-28. EXECUTIVE MOVES: Anna Vivian has been brought in by IMG Entertainment to serve as VP/Emerging Markets. In this newly created position reporting to SVP/International Entertainment Sales and Acquisitions Mark Young, Anna will manage factual and entertainment TV sales in Eastern Europe, CIS, Asia, Latin America, Africa and other growing markets. She comes to IMG from BBC Worldwide where she oversaw TV sales, publishing, formats and DVD licensing for the Middle East, Eastern Europe and CIS. Over at Playhouse Disney Worldwide, Nancy Kanter has been upped to SVP. The former Playhouse Disney U.S. SVP/Programming will continue to manage long- and short-form programming development and production in addition to her new duties as a liaison between Playhouse Disney's programming, brand and marketing management internationally. She will report to Disney Channels Worldwide's President/Entertainment, Gary Marsh.
