Cynopsis: International 05/27/08 Good morning. It's Tuesday, May 27, 2008, and this is your first early morning International & Multicultural briefing. INTERNATIONAL MARKET: Globo TV International picked up two new strategic partners in the Asia-Pacific region. The Brazilian distributor closed a volume agreement with Dream House Entertainment to air its telenovelas in Australia, a deal covering over 1,900 hours of dramas to be broadcast until 2010 via its subscription network La Telenovela (which has programming in Spanish). The channel will have Globo's telenovelas in three of its slots with The Clone, Terra Speranza and Uga Uga as the first to air. Globo TV International and Dream House Entertainment already have a North American market deal in place. In the second agreement, Globo TV sold the broadcast rights to an Indonesian dub of The Clone to StarHub. The telecom corporation will debut the telenovela in June on the Senasi subscription channel in Singapore. Peace Arch Entertainment Group Inc. inked licensing deals for 31 motion pictures and TV series while it was at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival and Market. New agreements closed by Peace Arch include the romantic comedy The Deal to Scanbox for Scandinavia, Videovision Entertainment for South Africa, Wooriful Venture Capital for South Korea and Myndform for Iceland. Winged Creatures went to VR Films & Studios for India and Myndform for Iceland while Chapter 27 to Tandem for Bulgaria, Goal 3 to Videovision Entertainment for South Africa, Film Media S.A. for Poland and Alliance for Singapore. The Babysitters also was sold to Alliance, Videovision Entertainment and Tandem. Additional deals include snowboard comedy Shred, Devil's Mercy, Time Bomb, Final Draft and Passion's Web to Lusomondo for Portugal. DVD rights for the crime drama mini-series Guns closed with Klockworx for Japan, dramas All The Good Ones Are Married and Our Fathers sold to Red Ant for Australia. Guantanamero goes to EIC-Lime-Light for Benelux and All The Good Ones Are Married, Ultimate Killing Machine, Never Forget and Passion's Web to Videoconcept for CIS. Other deals were signed with BS Filmcilik for Turkey, ITV for Central Europe, Bowline for Czech Republic and Slovakia, D Productions for Turkey, Hollywood Entertainment for Greece and Horizon for Turkey. The former Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Exec Director and Editor-in-Chief replaces Nigel Parsons, who is now MD/Business Acquisition and Development. MTV Networks Germany's MD, Catherine Muehlemann, is leaving the top position after 7 years. In addition to heading up Germany, Catherine managed MTV Networks in Austria and Switzerland and led Viacom's merging of its German properties. A replacement will be named in the near future. In Nelvana Enterprises' merchandise licensing department, Lily Yan has been upped from Senior Manager to Director/International Licensing, based in the Toronto office. Natalie Gee has been named to the newly created position of Creative Director/Global Networks Asia Pacific. Reporting to Raymund Miranda, the division's MD, Natalie will work on NBC Universal's new channel launches in the region in addition to managing creative for existing Global Networks channels (Sci Fi Channel, Universal Channel and the Hallmark Channel). She will be based in Singapore and was recently the Singapore-based Launch Creative Consultant for AETN All Asia Networks.
