INTERNATIONAL MARKET: Sony Pictures Television International and Videoload, Deutsche Telekom's VOD and EST service, inked an EST agreement to offer current and library Sony Pictures titles on www.videoload.de . MGM Channel is going Italian as of June 1 following a signing between MGM Networks and News Corp's SKY Italia to launch a local language version. Dubbed into Italian, it will become part of SKY Italia's Cinema package. Itching for more tastes of real football? (Sorry, had to go there.) Well, ye shall receive following a new 4-year agreement between the U.K.'s Football Association (FA) and Fox Soccer Channel (FSC). With this deal in place, FSC and Ireland's Setanta Sports will gain equal rights to the FA Cup through the 2011-2012 season and the FA Community Shield match as well as certain live and exclusive home games for the English Senior and Under-21 National Teams, 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification games and international home friendly matches. FSC will pick up new media rights to all games and shared TV, internet and mobile rights to video clips of all England and FA Cup matches as part of a content sharing deal with Setanta Sports North America. FA programming such as pre- and post-game programs, library matches and magazine shows are also part of the sharing with Setanta Sports. Breakthrough Entertainment secured broadcast sales with for more than 500 hours of lifestyle, medical drama, historical/war and entertainment programming in the U.K., Canada, Europe, Asia and South Africa. Digital Rights Group's Zeal Entertainment picked up the global distribution rights to three new formats from indie U.K. production company Amaze TV. One Of The Boys takes one woman undercover as a man to better understand them.The quiz show Vicious Circle and dating format Ladies and the Tramps round out the new rights agreement. You can fly away but, no matter how far you go, you will never be too far away from Sesame Street. The Sesame Workshop kids programs are now available to airlines internationally. Skeye Inflight Entertainment will be the exclusive airline distributor of the Sesame programs, which will be offered in multiple languages. Certain performances and interviews from Live From Abbey Road's season 1 will be available on www.itunes.com following a 25-session deal with FremantleMedia Enterprises. Spain's Antena 3 and the Netherlands' Net 5 (SBS Broadcasting) have picked up Granada International's Come Dine With Me format. Local versions of the series are already on air in France (M6), the UK (Channel 4), in Hungary and Croatia on RTL and in Germany (VOX). Today ESPN will air the UEFA Champions League final live from the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow between the Manchester United and Chelsea teams. The match will air on ESPN platforms internationally to more than 115 territories and 185+ million households. Additional pre- and post-game analysis will air on several ESPN platforms, including ESPN Classic, ESPN Deportes, ESPN International, ESPN Deportes Radio and www.ESPNdeportes.com, among others.
HISPANIC MARKET: The 4-year old, family-focused and educational Spanish-language network LAT TV is closing its doors. The programming aired on Austin's KVAT (Channel 17), Dallas/Fort Worth's KJJM (Channel 34), Houston's KCVH (Channel 30), Phoenix's KVPA (Channel 42) and San Antonio's KISA (Channel 40). The following statement was issued: "The Board of Directors of LAT TV determined on May 6, 2008 that because of the company's inability to secure a source of ongoing funding to continue operations, it was necessary stop broadcasting operations accordingly and to proceed with a company shutdown." AFRICAN AMERICAN MARKET: Michael Baisden returns to TV One this summer for a new season of hot topics, dynamic entertainment and compelling guests on his talk/variety series, Baisden After Dark. The FarCor Studios Production show begins on June 21 from 11p-midnight. EXECUTIVE MOVES: Andy Barnet moved up the Telemundo ladder from VP/Sales at KVEA to become VP/Telemundo National Sales Organization (NSO), reporting to Enrique J. Perez, SVP/Telemundo Stations Sales. Based in LA, Andy will supervise all NSO offices and employees as well as manage the Business Development unit on group deals and Telemundo's affiliate group's sales service. Univision Communications Inc. named Neil Brooks as VP of Univision's National Sales team in New York. Reporting to Mike Reid, SVP/National Sales, Neil will co-manage the New York group along with Tracey Gutierrez, VP/National Sales.
