INTERNATIONAL MARKET: LA's Echo Bridge Entertainment inked its first licensing deal from the Alliance Atlantis International Distribution catalog with France's Canal J picking up 24 episodes of Degrassi: The Next Generation and 13 of Instant Star. MTV Spain and Portugal acquired the first three seasons of Instant Star (39 episodes) while Belgium's Vitaya took 51 of reality series Debbie Travis' Facelift. In Australia, ABC bought 20 episodes of the preschool series Lunar Jim. Tiscali Italia S.p.A and Disney-ABC International Television signed a VOD licensing agreement for Disney movie titles to be added to Tiscali TV. More than 70 titles will be accessible as VOD on six themed channels from Tiscali TV, including Enchanted, Monsters, Inc., National Treasure: The Book of Secrets and more. KidsCo, NBC Universal, DIC Entertainment and Corus Entertainment Inc.'s joint venture, made its Spanish debut on the country's Teuve local operator. A VOD is also in the works for a launch later in 2008. Dennis the Menace and Care Bears are a few of the characters making the trip to Spain as the first stop in KidsCo's Western European rollout. The channel is looking to air in 40 countries within the next year and a half. Over 200 hours of kiddie shows have been sold by Southern Star International to Sun Kids Channel India. The Impossible Television-produced The Beeps, Sea Princesses and G2G: Got To Go are just a few of the series heading to India. Spain's Telecinco is bringing social and ecological documentaries to a new level there through its Telecinco 2 DTT service. So far exclusive deals have been signed with the ACNUR UN refugee org, Amnesty International and Greenpeace for content to air Thursdays during primetime. HISPANIC MARKET: Hispanic network upfronts are taking place over the next few days ... keep an eye out for a synopsis of each in Cynopsis: International's Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday editions. ASIAN/INDIAN MARKET: Audiences interested in Vietnamese fare now have another channel to turn to. DIRECTV is adding HONVIETV to its WorldDirect platform. The around-the-clock entertainment channel will air original U.S.-produced programming for the first time in addition to its regular Korean dramas (translated into Vietnamese), sitcoms, movies, talk and reality shows and more. It will be offered on channel 2078 in the VietDirect HONVIETV new programming package. EXECUTIVE MOVES: As part of the launch of its new international division, City Lights Television named Laura Johnson as SVP/International Development to manage the development and sales unit. Following on her previous SVP/Production Operations position, she will now be in charge of managing global television sales of the company's slate of over 300 formats. Joining Echo Bridge Entertainment's new London office as Director/Sales, Christopher Safford will be in charge of the company's Central and Eastern European and the Middle East territories.
