INTERNATIONAL MARKET: MTV Networks China has been granted permission by the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games to televise in the Olympic Village for the upcoming Olympics this summer. Coverage kicks off on June 24 with a broadcast on the private Olympic CATV channel with the 120-minute MTV Burr and 100 MTV Ways To Rock The Olympic Games shows. The former, an entertainment guide, will air 20 episodes from July 8 to September 24. 100 MTV Ways To Rock The Olympic Games will take place May 1 through August 8 ad an on- and off-air photo and video contest for viewers. India's Hathway Cable and Datacom and the BBC are partnering up to distribute BBC World News and BBC Worldwide's Global Channels BBC Entertainment and CBeebies on Hathway's network to 28 Indian cities. The latter two will be offered on Hathway Digital. The U.K.'s The Production Team sold the 13x22-minute The Adventures of Voopa the Goolash kiddie show (what a cute little guy) to Italy's Mediaset, Bulgaria's TV7, Russia's Content Union and other broadcasters in Canada, Greece, the Middle East, Portugal and Turkey. In some more post-MIPTV action, Ireland's Monster Distributes licensed Kids Ten Commandments and Paws and Tales to Poland's TVP and animated kiddie program Lifeboat Luke to Denmark's DR. Gazoon goes to Eastern Europe via a deal with Voxtel while Entertainment Unlimited South Africa now has the South African DVD rights. The internet and IPTV rights for Russia, CIS and the Baltics went to Innova Distribution. As for flying, Jungle Beat is taking off into the friendly skies with Ukraine's Aerosvit and Air Malta. The 30-minute Banjo The Woodpile Cat has been sold to Sun Tower (pan-Scandinavian DVD and publishing), M-NET Africa (TV) and Entertainment Unlimited South Africa (DVD). HISPANIC MARKET: Just shy of its first birthday, bilingual/bicultural network LATV inked a distribution deal with Tribune Broadcasting to bring in new major city affiliates. The new Tribune Broadcasting stations, all CW affiliates, are WPIX/New York, WGN/Chicago and KDAF/Dallas. In its first year, LATV has grown from 5 to 33 stations and a reach of 32 million in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Univision's 9p debut on Monday night of Fuego en la Sangre (Burning for Revenge) brought in the biggest average audience ever among Total Viewers 2+ (5,290,000), A18-49 (3,140,000), M18-49 (1,400,000) and W18-49 (1,740,000) in the network's history. EXECUTIVE MOVES: After just one year, ITV's Director/Content Dawn Airey is leaving the company to come back to the U.K.'s Five after a 5 year absence. She will take on a senior position in the RTL media group in addition to becoming Chair of Five. On the other side, ITV has named its COO/Global Content Lee Bartlett as Interim Managing Director. Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution's Latin American unit has added and upped two execs. In Miami, Jose Luis Gascue joins as VP/Latin America Sales to oversee free and basic cable TV distribution in Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Central America and non-U.S. Caribbean territories. He comes to the company from Beverly Hills Entertainment, Inc. where he served as VP/Latin America. Ricardo Rubini moves up in Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution from Director to VP/Latin America Sales. He will expand his responsibilities to include TV distribution projects in the Latin America South Cone, which includes Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Columbia, Chile, Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay and Ecuador.
