It's Wednesday, March 26, 2008, and this is your first early morning International & Multicultural briefing. INTERNATIONAL MARKET: Stephen Lambert has teamed up with the U.K.'s All3Media to launch a new production company, Studio Lambert. The former RDF Media CCO (RDF forced him to resign in October 2007 following the BBC Queengate/Crowngate hullabaloo). The new shingle will be added to All3Media's international TV production family. It will be based out of London but is also on the lookout to open an LA office. New recruits for the new company include Peter Moore (Channel 4's Head/Documentaries), exec producer Jenny Crowther (The Secret Millionaire and Wife Swap) and producer Tamara Abood (Channel 4's Brat Camp and Millionaire's Mission). Other folks on the roster are Michael Bywater as a development executive and ex-BBC News exec Jamie Donald as Head/Development. The new head of production is Jo Crawley while Andy Coker will serve as Head/Finance. IMAX Corporation and Northstar Media have decided to work together under a distribution agreement in which Northstar becomes the exclusive rep for the 21-film IMAX XXI Film Package. The rights cover international TV, VOD, mobile, and broadband. The Travel Channel has chosen FremantleMedia Enterprises to be its exclusive global distributor. The 200+ hour catalog, a first look option for new productions and international distribution co-financing options are included under the agreement, per THR. Sci Fi Channel will make its way to Japan following an agreement between Jupiter Telecommunications Co., Ltd. and NBC Universal International to launch the channel on the J:COM Digital Broadcasting service starting April 1. Leading in to MIPTV, MarVista Entertainment inked new international agreements with broadcasters such as Portugal's Lusomundo distributor for Beyond the Break (co-production with The N and Brookwell McNamara Entertainment) to air on ZON Multimedia's MOV digital platform. In Spain and Andorra, Taking Five was licensed to Sogecable's Cuatro. In Central and Eastern Europe, MarVista has licensed a 9-movie package to Poland's TVP while basic cable rights have been granted to Fox International Bulgaria for a 15-film package. For Asia, MarVista inked for 6 new movie titles with Real Networks and for several Burbank Animation Studios classic animated features with HBO Asia. Other movie package deals were signed with India's Sahara One for its new Firangi channel. Lifestyle series Space for Living and the Global Warming documentary went to RTB Brunei. In its U.K. free TV premiere on BBC ONE on March 21 at 405p, Disney Channel's High School Musical 2 brought in a #1 ranking in its timeslot with 2.6 million Individuals 4+ and 772,000 K4-15 for ratings of 4.6 and 8.9, respectively. France Telecom will launch Jetix Europe's channels and video content on its Orange mobile network. In Moldova, Poland and Romania, customers will have localized versions while U.K. customers will have special Jetix content loop. Portugal's Optimus customers will have access to a VOD content package. Program Call: It's that time of the international year already! HISPANIC MARKET: Azteca America fights crime with its newest reality series, the 30-minute Francisco Chavez: Detective Privado (Francisco Chavez: Private Detective), debuting today at 630p. The Wednesday night show introduces Francisco as he investigates all sorts of fun and wild small-town crimes. Spanish Broadcasting System is all set to launch its newest show, MEGA Reporte on March 30 at 10p (ET) on MEGA TV Channel 22, at 7p (PT) on DirecTV Mas Channel 405 and at 11p in Puerto Rico on DirecTV Channel 169. The first episode, hosted by journalist Allan Villafana, will focus on school massacres and community involvement. LATAM MARKET: The History Channel Latin America is finishing production on Historia Extrema (Extreme History) this week in Argentina. The 6-episode original historical adventure challenge is being produced by ENDEMOL Argentina and will air in June only on The History Channel in Latin America. EXECUTIVE MOVES: The U.K.'s Five network has named a new Director/Programs after the position was left vacant for the past 4 months. Former BBC Commissioning Editor/Features and Formats, Ben Gale, has been pulled in to take on the job. The international side of GRB Entertainment is expanding with the addition and upward moves of three execs. Marine Ksadzhikyan was upped to Director/International Sales to oversee sales in Asia, Benelux, Scandinavia and the Middle East. Tyler Massey has been named as Manager/International Sales. He was Manager/Sales and Brand at The Walt Disney Company's Disney Educational Production beforehand. Previously Manager/Acquisitions at Spafax, Justine O'Neill became the new Director/Acquisitions to manage third-party program acquisitions for global distribution. All three execs report to Marielle Zuccarelli, SVP/International Sales. Fox Pan-American Sports LLC has added Alejandro Luna as its newest Fox Sports en Espanol anchor. He will be a key studio host, covering all major club tournaments for the U.S. Hispanic market, including Copa Santander Libertadores, Copa Nissan Sudamericana and InterLiga. Alejandro will work with Dermot McQuarrie, SVP/Programming and Production, and Assistant GM/Fox Sports en Espanol. Prior to his new duties, Alejandro was a LA-based sports anchor and reporter for Univision and Telefutura.
