INTERNATIONAL MARKET: LA and Dusseldorf-based Duo Entertainment has been bought by Germany's Entertainment Value Associates (EVA) movie rights group, a subsidiary of Odeon Film AG. The licensing/distribution company deals with TV and feature film products' global rights (i.e., Crash and new 8-episode ZOS - Zone of Separation). Kai-Roger Gruneke, EVA's CEO, will take over DUO CEO duties from topper Philip von Alvensleben. Philip's new role has not yet been defined. DHX Media Ltd.'s Vancouver-based Studio B Productions Inc. inked a multi-year international TV music royalty agreement with Canadian indie music publisher ole. ole will both monitor and collect TV music publishing and audio-visual re-transmission royalties in more than 100 territories for the production company's current and future productions. They include George of the Jungle, Ricky Sprocket - Showbiz Boy, Being Ian; The Amazing Adrenalini Brothers! And others. The 20-year old Studio B will launch two new series this year, including Kit vs. Kat with YTV and Jetix Europe and Martha Speaks with WGBH Boston. The Guard (Halifax Film and Brightlight Pictures), 'da Kink in my Hair (Barna Alper Productions) and The Best Years (Blueprint Entertainment) have all received second season pickup orders from Canada's CanWest Media. The latter airs on the N in the U.S. BBC Worldwide confirms global distribution rights for the new preschool animated series 3rd & Bird (52 episodes). Produced by Little Airplane Productions (The Wonder Pets), BBC Worldwide takes the TV and merchandise rights for the series, which is set to launch on CBeebies in fall 2008. The Indian entertainment industry grew 2% more than anticipated for 2007, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers India' new Indian Entertainment and Media Industry 2008 study with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. Digital consumer figures added to the 17% growth from $10.95 billion in 2006 to $12.82 billion last year. Television industry revenue increased by 18% to $5.65 billion and is predicted to arrive at $15 billion by 2012 while foreign investment (mainly in TV) came in its highest ever in 2007 at $211 million. Direct-to-home subscribers will increase at a compound annual growth rate of 44% by 2012. EXECUTIVE MOVES: Daniel Hetzer has been named by Fox TV Studios as its new VP/Programming and Co-production from his prior position heading up business development and strategic planning at Europe's Action Concept production house.
