INTERNATIONAL MARKET: Japan's Fuji Television Network Inc. has decided to turn itself into a holding company as of October 1, 2008 under the new, albeit tentative name of Fuji Media Holdings. The move is reportedly to further develop the Fuji TV group's management, business resources and more. Under the new organization, Fuji TV, the TV broadcaster, will be spun off. The change is also subject to approval with the company's shareholders (next meeting is in June). NBC Universal, DIC Entertainment and Corus Entertainment Inc.'s KidsCo is heading to the Philippines, South Korea, Singapore and Palau for a launch on March 20. The channel secured carriage deals with platform operators in Asia, including SingTel's mio TV (Singapore), Sky Cable (the Philippines), PNCC (Palau) and HanaTV (Korea). The Philippines' Cable Boss also signed on to be KidsCo's distributor in country. The channel currently broadcasts in Romania, Ukraine, Hungary, Russia, Turkey and Poland. Virgin Media is adding Arsenal TV to its TV platform as of tomorrow with Virgin Media's XL TV customers picking up the channel for free as well as included in the Setanta Sports pack for M or L packages. The soccer team channel airs six hours a day, five days a week with matches and shows such as Arsenal Today, Bob Wilson Meets, and more. FremantleMedia Enterprises will take ABC's Oprah's Big Give to the international arena following its recent appointment as the Harpo Productions show's international distributor. Next month's MIPTV will be the first market stop, per Variety. France's M6 channel will offer its programming 60 minutes after broadcast on its new broadband VOD M6 Replay service. All of the network's series will be available for free for 7 days after the airing date. Future M6 plans including content availability on mobile phones and DSL television. BBC Switch, the BBC's teen-targeted network, has announced some of its new lineup with The Surgery being the first to debut within the next month. The 15-minute series (tied to BBC Radio 1's program of the same name) with host Jeff Leach touches on all sorts of teen topics. The other new shows will start off in May, including the 8-episode documentary series, Class of 2008. The lineup is rounded out by the U.S.' Kyle XY acquired from Disney-ABC International Television and the current affairs/journalism Revealed show. Distraction's All About Me fiction/reality comedy series has picked up a third season Canadian renewal. That also means that Distraction will have a new scripted format to rep at MIPTV next month. A new database named Mavise will be launched at MIPTV with over 2,500 surveys from European broadcasters and compiled by the European Audiovisual Observatory. Over the next months, the database is expected to double in size. The info contained within includes network information (viewer shares, management, broadcasting technical aspects, etc.) for free and more financial-based and detailed information for a fee. EXECUTIVE MOVES: Peter Flamman has been upped to SVP and GM/Northern Europe for Turner Broadcasting from his prior position as VP/Business Development, EMEA. In his new position, he will manage the company's entertainment networks in Central, Eastern and German-speaking regions of Europe as well as the Nordic and Benelux areas. Peter will oversee CNN International's distribution in those regions and maintain operations for the company's EMEA entertainment feeds. Andrew Brann is getting some love as the new MD of the U.K.'s Love Productions. The former Channel 4 and Television Corporation executive will be charged with increasing international sales for the company's shows and formats, including The Baby Borrowers format. Andrew will collaborate with Creative Directors Richard McKerrow and Anna Beattie.
